JOB SUMMARY: We are looking to hire an associate on the Sustainability Team to work with the broader sustainability team across various bank initiatives at the intersection of environmental, social and governance topics. The associate role will support Forbright Bank’s sustainability reporting, carbon accounting and other strategic initiatives in support of the Sustainability Program Strategic Plan across the following focus areas: driving progress through sustainable finance; integrating sustainable business practices & supporting our communities. The successful candidate will have a business and/or sustainability degree. The candidate will have an interest in these areas and with strong analytical capabilities and exceptional skills in research, problem solving & communications.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Review & support environmental, social and governance risk and impact analysis documented by underwriting teams across lending opportunities
  • Navigate complex & evolving topic areas with ability to think critically and communicate potential paths forward
  • Readiness to own and take on new responsibilities with a high degree of flexibility
  • Collaborate cross-functionally to advocate for process/practice improvements at the intersection of sustainability and banking
  • Conduct sustainability research, such as benchmarking the bank's performance against industry standards or identifying new sustainability opportunities
  • Work in close partnership with the Chief Sustainability Officer, Head of Sustainable Finance & Director of Community Impact on various projects to develop and advance ESG & sustainability initiatives at Forbright Bank
  • Contribute to building momentum & enthusiasm with regard to Forbright’s sustainability goals and other mission-aligned initiatives across the organization
  • Develop programs collaboratively with the Company’s Environmental Team, Climate Risk Working Group and Community Action Committee
  • Manage quarterly reporting and analysis of sustainability and ESG metrics within lending portfolio
  • Manage data collection and drafting of annual Sustainability Report and reporting for the Company’s sustainability-related committees and working groups
  • Contribute thought leadership and new ideas based on prior experience and/or research on sustainability best practices within the financial services industry
  • Work collaboratively at crafting sustainability programming, developing reporting strategies and materials, and communicating corporate responsibility and sustainability-related messaging, including internally-facing (i.e. quarterly sustainability newsletter) & externally-facing communications
QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Sustainability-related certification (SASB, ISSP, ACCO, GRI) or similar preferred but not required
  • Excellent attention to detail and project management skills
  • Bachelor’s Degree in business and/or sustainability preferred
  • 2-4 years experience in sustainability and/or financial services
  • Ability to complete research independently while maintaining a strong capacity to work collaboratively in a team setting
  • Strong verbal, written and interpersonal skills
  • Highly motivated, proactive, and results-driven
