Job Description
Summary


The Survey Field Crew Chief oversees all field operations, is the point of contact for clients out in the field and is familiar with all survey equipment and its uses.


Essential Functions


  • Performs field survey activities; meets standards set by the company, state agencies, and the surveying industry.
  • Proficient in trigonometry, geometry, algebra, coordinate geometry, and basic surveying computations.
  • Operates GPS equipment and has knowledge of its capabilities.
  • Troubleshoot problems with field equipment and fix minor issues in the field.
  • Responsible for letting Supervisor know if survey equipment needs repairs or supplies need to be ordered.
  • Able to accurately communicate the state and progress of a project to supervisor and/or the engineer in charge.
  • Is the point of contact for clients out in the field; responsible for passing out relevant information, answering questions, and relaying concerns or problems to supervisor.
  • Ability to read and understand plats, construction plans, and other design plans.
  • Operates and is familiar with Scanning equipment.
  • Oversees all field operations, such as measurements, equipment use, drawing of sketches, construction staking, property corner staking, and other data collection.
  • Has basic knowledge of surveying laws to alert Supervisor and Senior Supervisors of potential problems on projects.
  • Uses field data and notes to draft projects to completion using CADD software.
  • Has basic knowledge of First Aid. Cutting and clearing brush and trees from line of survey.
  • Clear communication skills.
  • Oversees the reducing of survey data, taking of accurate field notes, performing of basic survey calculations, daily downloading of field data, and copying and filing all associated field notes in the office.
  • Provides guidance to technicians on use of survey equipment and standard survey practices.
  • Responsible for purchasing select field supplies for use by all field crews from local suppliers.
  • Performs other incidental and related duties as required and assigned. Leadership and supervisory skill. Excellent technical knowledge and business development experience.
  • Assures that crew members follow standard procedures.

  • Traffic Control line.
  • Has basic knowledge of surveying laws and practices.
  • Valid Driver's License.


Education And Experience


  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • 5+ years' experience working with field crews or 3+ years' experience working with field crews with a Certified Survey Technician Level II.
  • Certified Survey Technical Level III is encouraged.
