Job Description
Join a team of dedicated professionals in the Polk County Clerk of Courts office. Essential Attributes:

Essential Tasks:
  • Prepare files for court and attend court on a back-up basis; provide pertinent information to the judge and follow judge’s instructions accordingly.
  • Review intake forms and make assessments based on numerous factors; meet one-on-one with customer/victim and assist in preparation of injunction paperwork; follow procedures for issuance or denial of injunction.
  • Occasional overtime may be required in order to serve late-arriving Domestic Violence customers.
  • Assist petitioners and respondents by providing information on the various types of Injunction cases and professionally answering their questions without giving legal advice.
  • Perform other related work as required.
  • Being able to work in a constant state of alertness and safe manner.
  • Prepare, distribute and explain injunction packets to customers. Provide information and referral services to victims.
  • Scan documents and perform data entry to build and maintain the progress of Injunction and Risk Protection cases.
  • Serve as 24-hour “On-Call” Victim Assistant and Risk Protection clerk, covering approximately one week per month (including holidays) of after-hours on-call duty. Requires availability by phone. Duty phone and laptop is provided.
Minimum Skills/Qualifications:
  • Ability to speak effectively to customers or employees of the organization and read and write English.
  • Ability to communicate well with people from varied backgrounds.
  • Graduate of an accredited high school or possess an acceptable equivalency diploma.
  • Knowledge of Florida statutes, Clerk’s policies and procedures.
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals.
  • Ability to make quick, objective decisions.
  • Six months related Domestic Violence or Family Law job experience is preferred.
  • Ability to maintain professionalism, composure and high level of confidentiality when exposed to extremely sensitive situations.
  • Ability to organize, prioritize and manage work to meet necessary time requirements and work load.
  • Ability to maintain attention to detail and to remain calm in an intense environment.
  • Ability to operate a PC and/or mainframe and related software applications.
  • Ability to acquire or have knowledge of current procedures to accomplish tasks within areas of responsibility.
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral or diagram form.
  • Ability to remain flexible as conditions change and continue effective performance in the face of additional challenges.
  • Ability to accurately type 35 wpm.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals.
