Hourly Rate: $25.50, Annual Rate: $53,040.00 Effective as of: 01-01-2023


**Annual salary noted above is based on an 8 hour day and full days worked calendar. Any position that is less than a full FTE/8 hours per day or late start will be prorated accordingly.

PRE-EMPLOYMENT REQUIREMENT


The successful new hire or rehired candidate will be responsible to complete and incur the fingerprinting and processing fee of $54.50 through an appropriate fingerprinting vendor and the Colorado Bureau of Investigation, within 48 hours of offer acceptance.

RESPONSIBILITIES

SUMMARY: Assist Program Directors, Summer School Principal, and Assistant Principal(s) in maintaining a positive and safe school environment by monitoring student behavior outside of the classroom; identifying and implementing intervention strategies; enforcing school and District rules; and coordinating safety efforts with Department personnel, public safety service providers, and the community.
SUPPORTED PROGRAMS: Extended School Year (ESY), Gifted and Talented Camps, Summer School, Food Distribution Sites
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
Must wear the Department of School Safety approved uniform apparel.
Ensure the implementation of building, program, and district security strategies on a daily basis.
Regularly submit incident reports, use of force reports, and restraint documentation, which is a core responsibility when performing the duties of a CSO.
Observe and monitor student behavior outside the classroom area including hallways, parking lots, lunch areas, playgrounds, bus zones, and the immediate surrounding community. Intercede as necessary to prevent infractions and/or injuries.
Act as a liaison with law enforcement, school and district staff, students, parents, and community members to identify issues and resolve problems.
Proactively enforce summer school rules through the established referral process and refer students to administration for further discipline when necessary.
Assist in restricting building and property access to students, staff, and authorized visitors. Monitor visitor access. Remove unauthorized visitors from school grounds, as necessary, by guiding them away from property, or verbally instructing them until they have left school property.
Assist law enforcement in criminal investigations, including testifying at court proceedings and documenting findings in written and verbal reports.
Assist District personnel in investigations of violations of school rules, Board/District policy, and other administrative regulations by interviewing witnesses, gathering evidence, and documenting findings in written and verbal reports.
Assist in carrying out emergency response plans (e.g., Lockdown, Secure, Hold, Bomb Threats, etc.). Assist with student management and with monitoring school site for threats to safety and property.
Demonstrate the ability and willingness to apply Board, school, and state/federal policies, procedures, and/or laws to maintain a safe learning environment, to quickly recognize dangerous/urgent situations, to recommend student disciplinary actions when necessary, to notify and coordinate with emergency personnel when required, and to adequately document incidents.

EDUCATION AND TRAINING: High school diploma/GED required, plus a minimum of one year of course work in the area(s) of sociology, psychology, communications, education, and/or child/youth development. (Course work may be replaced by demonstrated experience and training reflective of the same knowledge and abilities). Must have current and up-to-date certifications in Non-Violent Crisis Intervention (CPI) and First Aid/CPR/AED/Stop the Bleed.
EXPERIENCE: Minimum of two years' experience working directly with children and/or youth in an environment requiring excellent skills in problem identification and problem solving; negotiation and mediation; and behavior modification and management in a collaborative environment.
SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE, & EQUIPMENT: Must have shown the ability to effectively and efficiently use the report writing system designated by the department. Must have excellent verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to develop and maintain interpersonal relationships; and the ability to work well with a wide variety of people. Excellent problem identification and solving skills. Ability to effectively handle multiple tasks under stressful situations. Duties require knowledge of District and school policies/procedures and applicable state/local/federal laws; facility security, child/adolescent behavior; and intervention and mediation skills. Decision making requires collaboration with coworkers, administrative team, parents, and community agencies and members.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to outside weather conditions. Occasionally exposed to high, precarious places, and fumes or airborne particles. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud. Medium exposure to self, coworkers, students, and visitors to fractures, loss of limb/sight, disfigurement, or fatality due to failure to safely direct school vehicular traffic; and to bruises to self, coworkers, students, and visitors due to not responding to physical altercations effectively. Low exposure to self, coworkers, students, and visitors to cuts, burns, and disease due to not effectively handling or responding to disputes, physical altercations, assaults, fires, bomb threats, and first aid situations.
