2023 Summer Positions
Summer Recreation Camp Program

New Castle County Department of Community Services has openings for seasonal full and part time summer positions assisting with summer recreation camps. Applicants must be available during the summer months. Positions work 20-40 hours per week starting May 30, 2023, through August 15, 2023. Applicants must be 18 years of age and a high school graduate at the time of employment. Experience working with children is preferred. Selected applicants must pass a background check and drug screen.

JOB DESCRIPTION

CAMP COUNSELORS - Full and Part Time Positions
(CSW III, $16.54-20.10/hr.)
  • Supervises children ensuring safety and positive behavior.
  • Ability to communicate courteously and effectively.
  • Plans, organizes, and directs camp and summer programs and activities at the direction of the Head Counselor.

HEAD CAMP COUNSELORS – Full and Part Time Positions
(CSW IV, $17.36-21.11/hr.)
  • Responsible for day-to-day operation of summer camp and summer programs and activities at specific site.
  • Applicants should have at least three years of experience leading groups of children. Teachers, paraprofessionals, and coaches are encouraged to apply.
  • Maintains records and submits reports.
  • May supervise subordinate staff.
  • Ability to communicate courteously and effectively;
  • Oversees safety and behavior of youth; making onsite appropriate decisions.

CAMP COORDINATORS – Full Time Positions
(CSW V, $18.23-22.16/hr.)
  • Maintains camp records and submits reports.
  • Responsible for implementation of NCC rules, regulations, policies, procedures, and programming.
  • Serves as primary liaison between programs and Program Manager.
  • Applicants must have completed two years of college and have at least three years of experience leading groups of children. Current and former teachers are encouraged to apply.
  • Works independently and make appropriate decisions.
  • Helps to investigate and resolve complaints and inquiries.
  • Oversees several summer camp locations including supervision of subordinate staff.
  • Responsible for ensuring the safety and security of youth participants and promoting positive behavior.
