Summer Camp Counselor - Garwood

A Camp Counselor serves as a seasonal employee of the Westfield Area Y summer camp staff team. Camp Counselors play an integral role in the execution of the daily and weekly schedule of activities and provide a meaningful, fun and safe camp experience for children between the ages of 3-12. Our Garwood campers play indoors and outdoors, have fun with arts and crafts, and participate in a weekly special event or trip. Explorer Campers are bused to the Main Y facility in Westfield for swimming each day.

Trainings begin the first week in June

9 week camp season runs 6/26/2023 - 8/25/2023

Competitive salary based on Education

Free WAY membership while actively employed

Primary Responsibilities:

• Safety of all campers at all times
• Responsible for the maintenance of equipment/supplies, cleanliness of camp site
• Supervise and engage with groups of children in a fun but professional manner
• Maintain the appropriate staff to camper ratio
• Create a positive experience for all campers
• Maintain a safe environment
• Plan, organize and lead daily camp activities

• Experience working with children is preferred
• Must represent the YMCA’s core values of caring, honesty, responsibility and respect
• Must be 18 years of age
• Must be energetic, fun and enjoy working with kids
