Peer Counselors are knowledgeable guides and can help students recognize early on when they may need to access counseling services. This position is responsible for assisting the BHC Counseling Department.
Description of Duties
Peer Counselors Are Responsible For

Description of Duties
Peer Counselors Are Responsible For
- A thoughtful facilitator who provides access to people and resources
- Serve as Active Minds-BHC chapter board member
- Develop and maintain relationships with and provide assistance and support for students (focus on a smooth transition, acclimation, and a sense of belonging to BHC)
- Promote counseling and distribute mental health resources by “tabling” in high traffic areas and at other student events.
- Participate in training, programs and activities
- All other duties as assigned
- Ensure marketing is placed in appropriate places on campus and keep marketing up-to-date
- Organize campus events to increase awareness of mental health issues and suicide prevention.
- Hold office hours for Counseling Department
- Be a knowledgeable resource for students who may be experiencing low-level distress
- Advocate for changes in campus policies and procedures to better support mental health.
- Work in partnership with NAMI and NAMI events.
- Attend group and staff meetings
- Help facilitate and encourage attendance to all Counseling Department wellness activities
- Serve as an energetic and enthusiastic positive role model
