Job Summary
- May serve as a student employee supervisor.
- Creating and performing in-person and online instruction, reference and research services, workshops, and consultations highlighting the Library’s resources, and library and bibliographic best practices.
- May serve as a liaison to one or more disciplinary areas.
- Engaging in proactive outreach to create a supportive learning and research environment and connect Library collections, services, spaces, and programs to efforts in support of student success.
- Participating in professional activities at a statewide, regional, and/or national level.
- Developing, implementing, and assessing learning objects, tools, services, activities, and experiences that adhere to learning and instructional design best practices to support student information literacy and critical thinking skills.
- Tracking and engaging with emerging trends in pedagogy and technology for academic libraries and experimenting with innovative approaches to support scholarly content creation and presentation.
- Establishes and sustains working relationships with First Year/Early College programs and student support departments to identify, develop, and promote instructional activities and learning experiences that support information literacy, critical thinking, and lifelong learning.
- Collaborates with and provides support to UConn Library colleagues to integrate universal design for learning and inclusive design principles; develop effective online pedagogy; and identify and apply current technologies to the design, delivery, and assessment of online and in-person learning activities, guides, and objects that advance instructional efforts.
- Works effectively in current applications, software, and communication tools as employed by the UConn Library and UConn.
- Performs duties parallel to position responsibilities as required.
- Demonstrates reliable and effective written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills.
- Applies the principles of the Library's core values and Strategic Framework through active contribution and cooperation in achieving Area and Unit priorities and operational goals.
- Exhibits appreciation of, sensitivity to, and respect for a diverse working environment, inclusive of all backgrounds and identifications.
- Demonstrates active learning in and communication of ongoing trends and developments related to professional and positional responsibilities.
- Demonstrated ability to plan and organize work both independently and collaboratively.
- A strong commitment to customer service and a demonstrated ability to provide effective public service.
- Demonstrated ability to create online research guides, instructional videos, tutorials, and/or other digital learning objects to support community needs.
- A graduate degree in Library and Information Science from an American Library Association-accredited institution, or international equivalent.
- Knowledge of products, tools, services, venues, and opportunities that foster learning, research, publication, and scholarship.
- Demonstrated understanding of the principles of diversity, equity, and inclusion and a commitment to working collaboratively with individuals of diverse backgrounds, experiences, and perspectives.
- Demonstrated ability to effectively instruct individuals and groups online and in person using the ACRL information literacy framework.
- Demonstrated ability to deliver reliable, effective, and appropriate verbal and written communications that follow current professional standards across various and diverse audiences.
- Minimum of three years of experience as a post-graduate degree professional librarian.
- Demonstrated recurrent active engagement in professional activities at a statewide, regional, and/or national level.
- Demonstrated experience, either on the job or through graduate-level coursework, with library assessment practices and methodologies.
- Proven success in planning and presenting highly effective programs or events.
- Knowledge of issues in open education or equitable access to education and information.
- Experience with instructional design theory and practice and with the technologies with current technologies and tools to deliver e-learning content.
- Post-graduate coursework or degree in Instructional Design or a related field.
- Proven success in fostering partnerships with various stakeholders that focus on student success.
