Job Description

General Summary of Position


Are you a nursing student looking to gain hands-on experience during the school year? MedStar Georgetown University Hospital is currently hiring Student Nurse Technicians to work one day per week in the clinical setting. Positions will be available on a first come, first served basis on the Medical/Surgical and Intermediate Care Units. Requirements

In order to qualify for this position, you must:

Be currently enrolled in a BSN Program;

  • Available for one 8 or 12 hour shift per week.
  • Have at least a 3.2 (out of 4.0) current, cumulative GPA;
  • Have completed a Med/Surg Clinical Rotation in a hospital setting by Spring 2022; limited positions will be available for Sophomore students who have not completed a med/surg rotation; and,

General Summary of Position:
Provides patient care to an assigned group of patients, according to an established plan of care, under the direction and supervision of a nurse. These functions are performed in accordance with all applicable laws and regulations and MedStar Georgetown University Hospital's philosophy, policies, procedures and standards.
Qualifications:

EDUCATION AND/OR TRAINING REQUIRED: Enrollment in an accredited Baccalaureate or higher School of Nursing.

LICENSURE AND/OR CERTIFICATION: BLS required

EXPERIENCE: BSN student who has completed the sophomore year and has at least one semester of clinical experience. Previous experience as a nursing assistant desired. Satisfactory references from the school of nursing the student is attending

SPECIAL KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES: Ability to perform direct patient care technologies; effective verbal, electronic and written communication skills; Good interpersonal skills; Ability to set priorities and work in a stressful environment.



Minimum Qualifications


Primary Duties and Responsibilities

  • Exemplifies Patient Experience service standards and Spirit values, and actively participate in Patient Safety standards and tasks.
  • Assumes other duties and responsibilities that are appropriate to the position and area. The above responsibilities are a general description of the level and the nature of the work assigned to this classification and are not considered to be all-inclusive.
  • Maintains a safe and orderly patient/unit environment.
  • Utilizes the nursing process in carrying out direct patient care under the direct supervision of a Registered Nurse.
  • Contributes to the development and implementation of unit goals and objectives.
  • Communicates information in verbal and written reports that describe care that was planned and delivered to the patient and the patient's responses. Enters notes, as indicated, in the patient medical record. These notes must be cosigned by a Registered Nurse.
  • Participates in the nursing unit's performance improvement activities.
  • Participates in patient/family teaching as directed.
