Our eight-week Nurse Extern Program is a paid, full-time shadowing and training experience designed to help you build confidence while developing your clinical capabilities. You will work alongside a supportive preceptor and experienced nursing team who will guide you in acquiring the valuable skills and knowledge you need to prepare you for your next role as a new graduate nurse.

Position Summary:
After initial orientation and training, the student nurse extern performs direct patient care tasks under the direction of the Registered Nurse and performs various tasks as competency documentation designates.
Education/Experience:
1. Must be enrolled in an accredited school of Nursing and have successfully completed fundamentals of nursing. A GPA of 3.0 is preferred. Must submit college transcript and two (2) reference/evaluation letters from nursing instructor.
2. Must successfully complete a hospital-based nursing extern/technician program prior to performing the duties set forth in this job description. Nursing students who did not attend the HCGH extern program must pass the medical knowledge test.
3. Must demonstrate competencies in Principle Duties and Responsibilities within probationary period.
Licensure/Certification:
1. Nursing students must sign a nursing assistant certification waiver stating they are actively enrolled in an approved nursing program.
2. Current CPR certification.
Knowledge/Skills:
1. Must be enrolled in an accredited school of Nursing and have successfully completed fundamentals of nursing. A GPA of 3.0 is preferred. Must submit college transcript and two (2) reference/evaluation letters from nursing instructor.
