Job Description

Compensation: $21 - $23/Hour

This position empowers youth impacted by incarceration through mentorship, resources, and advocacy. In Oregon an estimated 70,000 youth have a parent who is incarcerated. These kids face countless barriers and generational obstacles. Our goal is to provide a positive and consistent adult role model who is often missing from their lives. This enduring connection helps youth develop social, emotional, and academic skills to help them thrive. This is a part-time position (about 20 hours per week).

Job Duties

  • Help plan and facilitate monthly group outings where youth build community with others in the mentor program.
  • Develop and sustain a long-term, pro-social, and supportive relationship with 8 – 10 students.
  • Mentor students to help them build self-esteem and motivation as well as teach life skills and help develop a talent/skill/area of interest for each youth.
  • Spend a minimum of two hours every other week with each student. This could include driving the mentee to activities or experiences.
  • Develop and maintain positive relationships with family members, teachers, and others involved in each child’s life.
  • Help students set goals and work toward accomplishing them.
  • Partner with parents and/or caregivers to provide concrete and social-emotional supports for the family.
  • Provide resources and activities that include opportunities for cultural awareness.
  • Communicate weekly with each mentee and their family.
  • Attend all mentor/mentee group events, mentor support groups, and program recognition events.

Job Qualifications

  • Attend the prescribed mentor training program.
  • Have at least two years of experience working with youths.
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Must have and maintain a current First Aid/CPR certification.
