Job Description
Job Title: Strategic Senior Procurement Manager-Direct Categories


Location: RDU


Reports to: Head of Procurement NOAM


Job Summary


Lead, develop and implement regional direct category strategies ((e.g. Fuel, Gas, Ground Support Equipment, Parts, Support Vehicles, etc), in collaboration with the Global Category Leaders, to contribute to Swissport’s profitability.


Job Responsibilities


  • Set rules of engagement with divisions / country organizations (including subsequent control of compliance)
  • Observe market tendencies (innovation, overall state of supplier market and vendors)
  • Effectively build and manage relationships with suppliers, using “make compete” v cooperate approaches in line with the category strategy
  • Participate in the decision-making process and contribute to the direct global categories work (lead from Swissport’s Headquarter in Zürich) from regional perspective, by making sure that all the relevant regional requirements are gathered and considered for the global decisions. He/she will drive the implementation of such decisions in the region
  • Work closely with sales, business development and finance in regard to upcoming needs (forecasts & capex replacements)
  • Manage costs (should-cost models, cost reductions, value creation, etc) and drive savings which will show in the P&L
  • Be responsible for agreed savings targets and later on for pre-defined supplier reductions targets and compliance measures (e.g. how much of the spend is going through the direct organization, or how much is with contracted suppliers, % of spend covered by Swissport’s compliant agreements, etc.)
  • Set-up KPI’s and monitor service levels to ensure compliance and uninterrupted availability
  • Lead all the Direct procurement activities in the region, such as RFIs/RFPs/RFQs for regional or local categories, as well as be responsible for the management of the regional suppliers.

  • Positive impact on Swissport’s bottom line, through savings, which are consistently and correctly reported and validated
  • Efficiency improvement, through total number of suppliers and invoices reduction in own region.
  • Regional Business and Functional Stakeholders Alignment, as applicable
  • Successful own Regional Strategy creation and implementation


Qualifications And Competencies


  • Team leadership experience
  • Preferably 5 years in procurement
  • Strong negotiating skills and understanding of contractual key terms
  • Willingness to constructively dissent and challenge
  • Ability to set priorities and re-prioritize as needed
  • Bachelor or master’s degree in business, Economics, Engineering, Law or other relevant field
  • Demonstrated ability to work with key stakeholders in multiple global locations and at various levels
  • Strategic, conceptual, and entrepreneurial way of thinking
  • Can-do attitude
  • Proven track record in delivering year to year cost savings
  • Excellent social & communication skills – able to clearly articulate position with clarity at all levels of a complex organization
  • Proficiency in English
  • Stress resistant
