Description:

St. Croix Health is seeking a full-time (0.9FTE) Staff RN for our Infusion Services department. This position will work Monday-Friday daytime hours before 7am and 5:30pm. This position will support infusion services at both our St. Croix Falls and Frederic locations.

Job Summary:

The Staff Registered Nurse (RN) is responsible for the professional nursing functions of supporting, planning, directing, communicating, and evaluating direct patient care for all age spans and for providing an environment of unsurpassed service. This position will demonstrate proficiency in administering the fundamentals of the nursing process, contribute to nursing assessment and the development of a nursing care plan, and participate in the evaluation of nursing care.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

1. Provide Skilled Patient Care

  • Monitor, record, and report symptoms or changes in patients' conditions.
  • Ability to assess multiple systems, develop plan of care providing intervention and education an assess outcomes of patient care
  • Distinguish between normal and abnormal developmental and age-related physiological and behavioral changes in acute, critical, and chronic illness.
  • Assess the impact of illnesses or injuries on patients' health, function, growth, development, nutrition, sleep, rest, quality of life, or family, social and educational relationships.
  • Monitor all aspects of patient care, including diet and physical activity.
  • Follows standards of nursing care as well as the nursing process of Assessment, Planning, Implementation, and Evaluation while delivering high quality patient care.
  • Modify patient treatment plans as indicated by patients' responses and conditions.
  • Assess urgent and emergent health conditions, using both physiologically and technologically derived data.
  • Perform emergency medical procedures, such as basic cardiac life support (BLS), advanced cardiac life support (ACLS), and other condition-stabilizing interventions.
  • Order, perform, or interpret the results of diagnostic tests and screening procedures based on assessment results, differential diagnoses, and knowledge about age, gender and health status of clients.
  • Prioritizes patient care based on individual departments and overall patient needs
  • Order, interpret, and evaluate diagnostic tests to identify and assess patient's condition.
  • Manage patients' pain relief and sedation by providing pharmacologic and non-pharmacologic interventions, monitoring patients' responses, and changing care plans accordingly.
  • Diagnose acute or chronic conditions that could result in rapid physiological deterioration or life-threatening instability.
  • Administer medications to patients and monitor patients for reactions or side effects.
  • Consistently identifies learning needs, tailors instructions to the patients level of understanding and documents response to education
  • Record patients' medical information and vital signs.
  • Prescribe or recommend drugs, medical devices, or other forms of treatment, such as physical therapy, inhalation therapy, or related therapeutic procedures.

2. Demonstrates personal and professional growth and competent nursing practice.

  • Knowledge of Infection control practices and the relationship to patient care outcomes
  • Demonstrates critical thinking skills
  • Promotes and consistently demonstrates hand hygiene
  • Applies knowledge based on clinical situations

3. Accurate Documentation in the EMR

  • Document data related to patients' care, including assessment results, interventions, medications, patient responses, or treatment changes.

4. Communicates Effectively For Internal and External Customers

  • Instruct individuals, families, or other groups on topics such as health education, disease prevention, or childbirth and develop health improvement programs.
  • Direct and oversee Certified Nursing Assistants
  • Collaborate with members of multidisciplinary health care teams to plan, manage, or assess patient treatments.
  • Assess the needs of individuals, families, or communities, including assessment of individuals' home or work environments, to identify potential health or safety problems.
  • Discuss illnesses and treatments with patients and family members.
  • Inform physician of patient's condition during anesthesia.
  • Assess the needs of patients' family members or caregivers.
  • Consult and coordinate with healthcare team members to assess, plan, implement, or evaluate patient care plans.
Requirements:

Education & Licensure:

Education:

  • Associate’s Degree in Nursing required
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing preferred

Licensure:

  • Current WI Registered Nurse required

Certifications:

  • ONS required within 6 months of hire
  • ACLS required within 6 months of hire
  • BLS required at time of hire

Experience:

  • Infusion or acute care experience preferred

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Demonstrated ability to work independently with little direction and manage multiple demands and priorities
  • Using logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions or approaches to problems.
  • Analyzing information and evaluating results to choose the best solution and solve problems.
  • Providing personal assistance, medical attention, emotional support, or other personal care to others such as coworkers, customers, or patients.
  • Excellent communication and listening skills
  • Giving full attention to what other people are saying, taking time to understand the points being made, asking questions as appropriate, and not interrupting at inappropriate times.
  • Developing specific goals and plans to prioritize, organize, and accomplish your work.

Physical Requirements:

  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
  • Prolonged periods of standing, bending, and reaching
  • Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds at times.
