About Our Job
The DOTI Transportation Implementation Division is seeking a Staff Engineer with interest and excitement in transportation engineering and construction management to support the wide range of mobility and safety work that is completed in our group. This position will be a part of the Transportation Implementation Divisions Construction team. In the Staff Engineer role, you will have the ability to make a direct impact in bettering our city by implementing safe and equitable transportation mobility improvements that benefit all residents and the traveling public.
The Transportation Implementation Division is made up of separate Design, Construction, and Specialty Services groups. Our projects originate from various sources including the Elevate Denver Bond program, Denver Moves Bicycles master plan, Vision Zero Road Safety Audits, Denver Moves Pedestrians master plan, RISE Denver Bond program, and other planning level efforts. We work with other City departments, design consultants, community stakeholders, utility agencies and others to implement projects.
Examples of work delivered through this Division include:
  • Active transportation & mobility projects (e.g., bicycle facilities, pedestrian facilities, ITS & signals, transit infrastructure, sidewalks, etc.)
  • Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) programs and regulatory projects
  • Large, complex transportation projects (e.g., 16th St Mall, Colfax BRT, 56th Avenue Design-Build, etc.)
  • Ongoing citywide deferred maintenance projects
  • Transportation safety projects (e.g., Vision Zero, Neighborhood Transportation Management Plans (NTMP), Safe Routes to School (SRTS), etc.)
The Staff Engineer on the Construction team will be responsible for the following types of tasks:
  • Foster collaborative and innovative partnerships with city, regional, state, and federal agencies, community groups. Occasional after-hours work for community meetings, special events support, and field observations may be required depending on project needs.
  • Project management of construction contracts from Notice to Proceed (NTP) through acceptance and final close out.
  • Lead challenging project roles, including project management (ex. control of scope, schedule, budget, contractor management, etc.), lead in developing procurement strategies, monthly pay application and requests for reimbursement, document review, construction administration, and interaction with project inspectors.
About You
Our ideal candidates will have:
  • Knowledge and understanding of transportation engineering best practices using current design guides and manuals
  • Analytical and project management skills including evaluation of schedules, cost management, document management.
  • The ability to communicate with a variety of stakeholders, community members and agency partners
  • Interest and experience in transportation engineering design and/or construction management
  • Desire to grow their career with the team

Education requirement: Bachelor's Degree in Engineering
Experience Requirement: None
License/Certifications: Requires a valid Driver’s License at time of application
Registration as an Engineer Intern issued by the Colorado State Board of Registration for Professional Engineers at the time of application
Registration in another state will be accepted in lieu of this requirement, provided that the applicant has Colorado registration at completion of probation
Licenses and certifications must be kept current as a condition of employment
Education/Experience Equivalency: No substitution of experience for education is permitted
Additional appropriate education may be substituted for experience requirements
