This position is a tiered position. Incumbents will have a position level assigned based on their skills and experience, and in alignment with position development plans. Position placement is at Amtrak’s sole and absolute discretion.


Summary Of Duties


The Production Systems Specialist is responsible for system integrity, rolling stock master file accuracy and ensuring that system improvements are accomplished to track and record all mechanical department data including both equipment and employee related data for financial and productivity reporting.


Essential Functions


  • Assistance to internal and external customers in retrieval and interpretation of Mechanical Department data.
  • Employee labor and material data required for financial system charges for all mechanical productivity including equipment maintenance and repairs and mechanical facility maintenance and repairs and preventive maintenance initiatives.
  • Help Desk Functions including the coordinating and facilitating the field-identified facility experts in the application.
  • Creating training materials
  • Communication both written and verbal to field, internal and external customers.
  • Implementation activities including site surveys by AT personnel for network connectivity
  • All implementation and on-site accountabilities for the application of the Work Management System as directed by the Sr. Manager Production Planning & Systems and the Chief Mechanical Officer for all Mechanical Facilities system wide.
  • Coordinating and implementing all training requests and requirements for both in-house and external customers (contractors, government agencies).
  • Forecasting, planning, execution and tracking of all Maintenance of Equipment functions
  • Overhaul, remanufacture and preventative maintenance of Amtrak maintained rolling stock.
  • The Production System Specialist (PSS) must build enthusiasm about the Work Management System Implementation. The PSS will foster facility management support and commitment. This includes facilitating, overseeing the training effort, promote re-engineering principles in line with accepted mechanical processes, develop action plans and set expectations for system implementation and serve as primary contact for the facility working groups.
  • Installation of system hardware and coordinating with the AT department in all aspects of software application IT requirements.
  • Managing the organization of end user training
  • Amtrak Help Desk WMS Point of Contact for User Assistance with the application.
  • Managing all training documentation
  • Direct interface with Mechanical Department Maintenance Facility and Engineering Management staff to improve work management system on-site application.
  • Complete records of equipment in train service including the enroute mechanical failure tracking system.
  • Administrative support to Engineering, Budget and Timekeeping personnel for data mining financial and business systems data from the application.


Minimum Qualifications


  • Three or more years of relevant work experience.
  • Must have general knowledge of FRA regulations, Railroad Operating Rules, OSHA regulations, AAR Rules, general maintenance practices for Amtrak cars and locomotives and other applicable codes and standards.
  • Must have demonstrated organizational and managerial skills.
  • Experience demonstrating skill using PC-based word processing, spreadsheet, and presentation software (e.g., Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and the ability to integrate other common desktop products as required
  • Must possess a bachelor’s degree in Engineering OR the equivalent combination of education, training and/or experience in lieu of a degree.
  • Must have demonstrated multi-disciplined engineering experience with heavy industry or transportation company.
  • Must possess excellent written and oral communication skills.


Preferred Qualifications


  • IT related coursework in Networking, Business Communications and/or information Systems.
  • Extensive multi-disciplined engineering experience in a transportation company with demonstrated project management experience
  • Degree in Adult Learning, Training, Presentation Platform Skills.


Communications And Interpersonal Skills


Must have excellent oral and written communication skills.


The salary/hourly range is $62,910-$81,540. Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to education, work experience, certifications, internal equity, etc. Depending on an employee’s assigned worksite or location, Amtrak may consider a geo-pay differential to be applied to the employee’s base salary. Amtrak may offer additional incentive and pay programs to recognize and reward our employees, including a short-term incentive bonus based upon factors such as individual and company performance that is commensurate with the level of the position and/or long-term incentive plan compensation.
