Job Description

Summary:

The Cable Installation Technicians requirements would be to address outstanding cabling issues across the Division, to include remediation, repair, installation and upgrades across all IT enclaves (FBINET, UNET, SCINET) as well as video security, access control, locks/alarms (Hirsch, Bosch), OPWAN, JIANT, telephone, and coaxial cable. Technicians would receive taskings from the Critical Incident Response Group (CIRG) Telecommunications Manager and/or Technical Point of Contact (TPOC) to include providing status updates as required.

A Cable Technician will install cable pathway systems, fire stop systems, various electronic components, and various cable that includes but is not limited to twisted pair cable, coax, fiber optic & low voltage cable. Cable installation includes placement, termination, testing, labeling and documentation.

At least 5 years of experience is required.

Preferred: FBI/DOJ experience.

Major Responsibilities / Duties:

  • Removes any existing cable supplies that may be effectively reused on other projects, thereby minimizing overall project costs.
  • Assists with on-site pre-task surveys to determine project timeline and scope.
  • Installs, tests, and documents cabling in support of tasks as identified in the provided Installation Design Plan (IDP). Any changes to the IDP are to be captured in the red lined drawings and are to be provided back to FBI at task completion.
  • May be responsible for all activities involving quality assurance and compliance with applicable regulatory requirements.
  • May be required to support CIRGs Main Data Facility (MDF) connectivity at each facility. This support will end at the patch cord connection to the data switch, as required.
  • As necessary, interfaces with all customer representatives in a professional manner.
  • Remains knowledgeable of industry practices and technologies that could be used to improve the FBIs networks physical layer.
  • Collaborate with Manager and Customer in project planning and implementation
  • Manage location schedules including start time, break time and stop time
  • Train and direct Technicians and Technician Helpers
  • Install, terminate, test and troubleshoot fiber optic cable (MM and SM)
  • Install termination blocks, patch panels and station hardware
  • Terminate and test copper voice/data cables
  • Mounts telecommunications equipment, routers, switches, multiplexors, cable trays, and alarm systems; installation of racks and cabinets all while following industry standards, best practices and manufacturer requirements.
  • Install cable pathway systems (cable trays, cable racks, J-hooks or D-rings) by using power or manual fasteners, drills or other power equipment.
  • Establishes voice and data networks by running, pulling, terminating, and splicing copper and fiber optic cables.
  • Documents network by labeling and routing equipment and cables; recording configuration diagrams and specifications.
  • Install or maintain existing fire stopping systems in conduits, trays, wall/ceiling/floor penetrations.
  • Maintains customer rapport by listening to and resolving concerns; answering questions.
  • Updates job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities; reading technical publications.
  • Maintains safe work environment by following codes, standards, and legal requirements.
  • Keeps supplies ready by inventorying stock; placing orders; verifying receipt.
  • Enhances department and organization reputation by accepting ownership for accomplishing new and different requests; exploring opportunities to add value to job accomplishments.

Qualifications:

  • Candidate may be required to have secret or top secret clearance
  • BICSI Installer 1 or 2 (Copper or Fiber)
  • Valid manufacturer training certificate for the product being installed
  • Certified Network Cable Installer (CNCI) - Copper or Fiber
  • Recent, verifiable equivalent experience in the work described above (within 3 years)
  • Must work well with little supervision individually and in a team environment.
  • BICSI Technician (Counts as 2 of the requirements)
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office, Excel, and Outlook a plus.
  • Verifiable military training on cabling design and/or installation (within 2 years)
  • Must have knowledge of basic computer skills and be able to demonstrate good writing skills.
  • BICSI RCDD
  • Must be knowledgeable in codes, industry standards and best practices.
  • Candidate will possess two (2) or more of the following;

Note: If candidate possess only one (1) of the above, then at the hiring managers discretion, they will be given up to six (6) months to complete an additional training requirement.

Active Top-Secret clearance required

Physical Demands:

  • Must have the ability to discern colors used for safety and telecommunications terminations.
  • Willingness to work days, nights and wee
  • Ability to use a variety of general and specialty hand tools and test equipment.
  • Ability to carry heavy loads as needed.
  • Must maintain a safe work environment.
  • Willing to work in tight, confined areas and stand in one place for long periods of time.
  • Ability to carry and climb ladders as needed.
