The Senior Remote Coder complies with Official Coding Guidelines in ICD-10-CM/PCS coding conventions in assigning diagnoses and procedure codes for hospital based visits: ancillary outpatient, emergency room, ambulatory /observation records, and inpatient records in a work from home position. Clinical judgment and high level analytical skills are utilized to code and abstract in the legal medical record supporting reimbursement, data collection, physician documentation, meeting regulatory accreditation requirements for state and federal reporting in compliance with the Department of Health Care Access and Information (HCAI) and for other external reporting purposes.
Qualifications
  • Comprehensive mastery of APC assignment methodology with emphasis in NCCI edits.
  • Three (3) to five (5) years’ experience in coding and demonstrating knowledge in the principals and practices of ICD-10-CM/PCS and knowledge in CPT conventions for ancillary outpatient, emergency room, outpatient surgical, observation records, and inpatient records.
  • Demonstrated ability to work productively, accurately, and independently with minimal supervision or assistance from coworkers.
  • Ability to interact well with all levels of employees and physicians throughout the organization
  • Completion of college level coursework in ICD-10-CM/PCS and CPT coding, anatomy and physiology, and medical terminology.
  • Strong communication skills with technical knowledge with conference meetings.
  • Proficient with Excel, Word, and Outlook.
  • Technical aptitude for resolving basic PC hardware and software application problems and ability to perform basic troubleshooting.
  • Comprehensive analytical and problem solving skills in compiling statistical data.
License/Certification/Registration Requirements
  • Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT) preferred
  • AHIMA Certified Coding Associate (CCA) or AHIMA Certified Coding Specialist (CCS) credential required

40.21 - 60.31 USD Hourly
