The Opportunity
The International Group Program (IGP) is looking for an experienced global benefits professional to join our team in North America as a Sr. Business Developer.
IGP is a department of John Hancock Life Insurance Company with its principal place of business in Boston Massachusetts, U.S.A. IGP is a network of major life insurance companies who work together to meet the global and local employee benefits needs of international corporations and their affiliates, branches, and subsidiaries.
As a Sr. Business Developer, you will work with multinational companies and their advisors in placing local national group employee benefit plans with our IGP Network Partners and including them in multinational pooling arrangements or global underwriting and captive reinsurance programs.
Responsibilities
  • Travel throughout assigned territory and possibly on occasion abroad.
  • Advise clients on IGP’s cash flow products and local foreign benefit practices in the 80 countries in which IGP operates.
  • Develop strategic plans for achieving sales goals through the expansion of existing accounts and sale of new accounts in assigned geographical region.
  • Supervise the proposal preparation process and the Account Technicians, Account Analysts and Administrative Assistants involved in it.
  • Explain the multinational pooling concept and the details of the IGP network and IGP’s products and services.
  • Preparation of IGP’s submissions as part of multinational pooling studies conducted by the international consulting community on behalf of IGP clients and prospects.
  • Establish contact with senior officers and top executives of U.S. multinational clients, prospects, and international consultants.
  • Identify target subsidiaries of existing accounts and new parent prospects.
  • Organize and conduct meetings and presentations which address the needs of existing clients or prospects with an emphasis on quality and flexibility (i.e. International Experience Reports, benefit summaries, new subsidiary proposals, survey data).
  • Research the specific needs of clients and prospects and determine appropriate sales strategy and IGP products which will be of interest.
How will you create impact?
Reporting into Brian McCarthy, Head of Business Development, the Sr. Business Developer impacts proposal development for both existing clients and prospects through strategic targeting of subsidiaries, acquiring and providing introductions for Network Partners, coordinating the exchange of required information (i.e. census data, benefit design), and making formal presentations.
What We Are Looking For
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration, Economics, or related field
  • Proficiency in all Microsoft Office products
  • Home state life, accident & health broker/producer license is an asset
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills; ability to present to large groups
  • Strong knowledge of group insurance products and international pooling products
  • Candidate must have 10+ years’ experience in client relations in the global benefits industry and a good basic understanding of all of the pertinent group products (i.e. life, disability, medical and retirement)

    Salary will vary depending on local market conditions, geography and relevant job-related factors such as knowledge, skills, qualifications, experience, and education/training.
