Job Description

Eliassen Group is HIRING for SQL Database Developer positions that are available with a notable financial/investment services firm.


Candidate hired must be accessible to Baltimore, Maryland (2x days per month, or 1x day per week)


Interviewing and hiring will be performed in July 2023 and/or August 2023.


Summary:

As a SQL Database Developer, you will be involved in several exciting initiatives including: helping solve problems, designing solutions using cutting-edge technologies, as well as developing and supporting several mission-critical online transactional database applications with vast amounts of data generated on daily basis.


The position will be primarily expected to be able to design database schema, data models, and deliver optimized code to process data to meet business requirement. The individual SQL Database Developer must have a deep understanding of relational database architecture and database security management.


Key skills: SQL developer – SSIS, SSRS as a solid foundation. They will learn their own databases and systems (trading systems which are CRD and accounting systems APX). They also use Snowflake – don’t need to know that, but that is their data warehouse. So strong ETL (SSIS) and strong reporting (SSRS) experience. Will be transitioning to Azure.

Project scope: Generating, automating, editing/updating reports that reports on content within CRD and APX.

Soft skills: 7 years minimum experience. Team is very close knit – they’ve worked together at least 4-5 years. Strong communication and comprehension is very important. They are very high volume – they get a TON of requests across the firm/departments, so someone needs to have the technical acumen to jump in and take ownership of their assignments, troubleshoot, problem solve, solution and deliver. Scrum Master can’t hand hold – needs to be very important. They are not just a data warehouse/churn and turn – they have fun. But needs strong technical chops, critical and analytical thinking. They do 2x/day stand ups. 9:15-9:30 and afternoon is 2-2:15. Punctuality/on time, outgoing and proactive traits super important. Attention to detail are also SUPER important – they do peer reviews – send work off to another team to review, and previous person had a high return rate of issues in reporting/project output. They interact with the business, so won’t be sitting in the corner with the business – the scrum master will include the developer with the business team to do the requirement analysis. Looking for someone curious/inquisitive, someone who can think the best way to think through how to approach the work – looking for someone who is outside of the box thinking and can help improve their environment too (within company limits). Strong written and verbal communication. This team is well known for being very strong at communication.
