POSITION SUMMARY:
We are seeking a skilled and experienced Part-Time SQL Database Administrator (DBA) to manage and optimize our database systems. As a vital member of our team, you will be responsible for ensuring the performance, security, and availability of our SQL databases, while also playing a crucial role in database migration projects. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in Microsoft SQL Server and experience with migrating databases to a different platform (e.g., MySQL, Oracle, Linux).
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Monitor database performance and optimize queries to ensure efficient and reliable operation.
- Assist in planning and executing database migrations from Microsoft SQL Server to a specified target platform.
- Provide technical support to end-users and stakeholders, addressing their database-related queries and concerns.
- Collaborate with software developers to design and implement efficient database schemas and structures.
- Ensure database security by implementing access controls, encryption, and authentication mechanisms.
- Identify and resolve database-related issues, such as performance bottlenecks and data integrity problems.
- Perform routine database maintenance tasks, including backups, restores, and disaster recovery planning.
- Document database processes, procedures, and configurations.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Familiarity with scripting languages (e.g., PowerShell, Python) for automating routine tasks.
- Proven experience as a SQL Database Administrator, managing Microsoft SQL Server databases.
- Hands-on experience with database migration projects, preferably from Microsoft SQL Server to another platform (e.g., MySQL, PostgreSQL, Oracle).
- Attention to detail and the ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
- Proficiency in SQL query optimization and troubleshooting.
- Higher Education experience in a plus.
- Relevant certifications (e.g., Microsoft Certified: Azure Database Administrator Associate) are a plus.
- Effective communication and collaboration skills to work with cross-functional teams.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to diagnose and resolve complex database issues.
- Strong understanding of database security concepts and best practices.
This is a part-time, 1099 contractor position. The exact schedule will be determined based on project needs and mutual availability.
