Here’s What a Day of Work Can Look Like
The Specialized Photographer will perform a full range of difficult and complex tasks that may include:
  • Recording of crime scenes and areas of civil disturbances;
  • Documentation and reconstruction of submitted evidence for photographic documentation;
  • Other related duties as required.
  • Testifying as an expert witness;
  • Utilization of computers and software, including Adobe Photoshop;
  • Production of court exhibits and photographic evidence;
  • Operation of specialized equipment and materials including forensic or bio-medical photography, macro photography, infared and ultraviolent, digital photography, and line and continuous tone copying;
About Us
Our free-standing, modern facility is located in Farmington, CT, on the campus of the University of Connecticut Health Center and Medical School. The office is a state-wide medical examiner system performing about 3,000 autopsies per year. The CT OCME is a NAME Accredited office with a staff of ten (10) full-time collegial Medical Examiners, as well as ongoing per diem support for the caseload. The Medical Examiner staff range in experience from 25+ years to 2+ years, resulting in a very educational and supportive environment for death investigations and professional development. Full-time medicolegal death investigators (most are ABMDI certified) work 24/7 to investigate reported deaths and attend scenes. Additional support staff include excellent forensic technicians, professional full-time photographers, and thorough and attentive medical records staff and laboratory assistants.

PURPOSE OF JOB CLASS (NATURE OF WORK)

In a state agency this class is accountable for performing the most complex tasks and specialized photographic techniques in a wide range of highly technical assignments.

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES

  • Documents and reconstructs submitted evidence;
  • Operates specialized equipment and uses special materials;
  • Produces court exhibits and photographic evidence;
  • In addition to general duties performed by a Photographer, performs a full range of difficult and complex tasks including forensic or bio-medical photography, photomacrography, infrared and ultraviolet, cinematography, video, large format camera (4x5 or larger), line and continuous tone copying;
  • Performs related duties as required.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS - GENERAL EXPERIENCE

Two (2) years of experience in special photography leading to proficiency in the technical areas above.

NOTE: Special photography is interpreted as work involving the use of specialized techniques and equipment beyond that required for merely taking, developing and processing photographs.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS - SUBSTITUTIONS ALLOWED

College training in photography at an accredited college may be substituted for the General Experience on the basis of fifteen (15) semester hours equalling one-half (1/2) year of experience to a maximum of one (1) year.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Experience performing autopsy photography.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

Incumbents in this class will be required to possess and retain a valid Motor Vehicle Operator's License.

CHARACTER REQUIREMENTS
