RESPONSIBILITIES:

This is an awesome opportunity to work in a highly supportive environment and make a real difference in the life of a child. Teach a small class size of students who have autism spectrum disorder (ASD) or other neurological differences by using a team approach with a designated Special Education Paraprofessional to deploy personalized, relationship-focused strategies designed to foster student growth. You would be further supported by our Assistant Director and student services staff in true collaborative effort.

Following the guidelines established by an IEP, which is designed through ongoing collaboration with resident districts and families, adapt teaching techniques and methods of instruction to meet individual student needs. Instruct students in academic subjects, as well as social interaction and daily living skills. Use appropriate frameworks and instructional models for the students including SCERTS model, PECs, and other research-based practices. Curriculum development and modification required.

Distinguished Scholars Academy, a self-contained program, is not located in a traditional school building. Students attend for a full day of programming. Instruction includes both thematic group activities as well as individualized instruction. Student to staff ratio is 4:1. Students remain enrolled in their own district with the goal returning to that district.

CESA 1 offers opportunities for professional development to help you grow as an educator. Additionally, you would participate in student IEP meetings, but would not need to write the IEP or be the case manager.

QUALIFICATIONS:

- Bachelor's degree

- Experience supporting students diagnosed with ASD or other neurological disorders

- Valid DPI license in Special Education

- Desire to work in a self-contained, alternative program

- Knowledge of SCERTS model, PECs, and other research-based practices for ASD students

- Knowledge of PBIS and Nonviolent Crisis Intervention preferred

- Strong communication skills

- Ability to build relationships

- Proven experience managing and modifying student behavior

- Disposition for teamwork and collaborative thinking
