Job Description
Brandeis is delighted to announce a career opportunity as Sound Supervisor and Engineer. The Sound Supervisor and Engineer provides the professional, technical expertise that results in the creation and administration of all systems and procedures necessary to implement or acquire all sound materials and equipment for productions sponsored by the Department of Theater Arts. These systems include budgeting money, time, and personnel. The person utilizes technical knowledge and organizational skills to process a variety of administrative duties while maintaining a quality learning environment and managing inventory, suppliers, and maintenance of sound equipment and related materials. Other responsibilities include working directly with guest designers and instructing students in accepted theatre industry standards and techniques for sound.
The Sound Supervisor hires, trains, and manages temporary over-hire crew members, student work-study and production crew members.
The Sound Supervisor works with other Theater Arts faculty and staff to create a safe and appropriate work and learning environment and provides mentorship and expertise to students whenever possible.
This is a part-time position - 20 hours per week and is eligible for benefits.
:
  • Center such as Orientation and Commencement. Estimated time: 15%
  • Executes/facilitates sound needs for university and non-university events in Spingold Theater
  • Attend and participate in production, department, and university meetings, trainings, committees and events as needed/available. Estimated time: 10%
  • Executes/facilitates sound designs for departmental shows including, but not limited to purchase, installation, and rental of sound-related equipment and supplies; hiring/training over-hire and student sound crews; and overseeing sound load-ins and strikes. Serve as the lead Audio Engineer, operating audio consoles in a FOH (Front of House) or Monitor capacity, programming audio playback systems, and frequency coordination for wireless equipment as needed. Estimated time: 30%
  • Manage sound department including, but not limited to maintenance of sound stock and equipment, ensuring all equipment is safe and operational; maintain sound shops and systems including control consoles and infrastructure in three theaters; and upgrade and maintain related software and documentation for designer use. Manage sound budgets including, but not limited to show budgets, stock, and work-study budgets while ensuring timesheets are complete, accurate and timely. Estimated time: 40%
Education and Qualifications:
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office and Google Suite. Knowledge of Recording, Playback and Show Control software including Qlab or similar. Understanding of and basic proficiency with computer aided drafting preferred. The ideal candidate will have experience working with Clear Com headset systems, digital mixing consoles, and wireless microphones and their frequency coordination. Familiarity with proper rigging procedures for speakers and other audio components preferred. Familiarity with proper rigging procedures for speakers and other audio components preferred.   • Several years of theatrical sound training or equivalent professional experience required and basic sound technician/engineer experience preferred.
  • Must have advanced skills in theatrical sound.
  • 3-5 years work-related experience required, 1-2 years of supervisory experience preferred
  • Bachelor’s Degree required
