Job Description

Waste Connections' Central Region landfill team is currently seeking highly capable, self-directed individuals to serve as the Solid Waste and Sustainability District Manager for landfills across our 17 state territory.

We have needs in locations across the Midwest and Rocky Mountains and are eager to bring in talent to support our continued growth. You will head a team of site and region managers to continue the landfill's transformation from being a landfill to a facility delivering sustainable solutions for the region and striving for continued financial growth while achieving demonstrable reductions in the site’s carbon footprint.

Total Comp: $180-250k with Bonus Opportunities!

Your Core Work Responsibilities:

  • Foster the work hard, play harder attitude that defines Waste Connections.
  • Lead and manage the site’s operations with a forward thinking mindset. Oversee intricate landfill gas collection/control and leachate removal/pretreatment systems; continually striving for opportunities in improved operating efficiencies.
  • Be a key voice in further developing relationships and partnerships with municipal partners, businesses, regulators, schools, church officials, local reporters, and special interest groups. Regularly attend/participate in government, community and business events.
  • Be able to run the business of the landfill. Must be familiar with budgeting, forecasting expenses, managing expenses/capital purchases and projects. Must be able to drive revenue creation, analyze/execute pricing strategies, and manage customer contracts.
  • Be passionate about coaching and developing employees at all levels in the organization.
  • Partner closely with our local hauling company managers along with our municipal, commercial, roll-off, and special waste partners to expand Waste Connections’ growth.
  • Lead construction as well as drive growth of the Waste Connections Sustainability systems. Evaluate new opportunities to harness value from discarded materials and assess viability of technologies/techniques toward that end.
  • Interact with and manage coordination between multiple on site parties which may include an active quarry company, asphalt plant, concrete plant, and two landfill gas-to-energy ventures depending on location.
  • Lead and manage a team of professionals to efficiently manage over incoming waste daily. Above all else will be your commitment to human health/safety, compliance, and environmental stewardship.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • 5+ years management level experience in solid waste, mining, oil & gas, or civil construction.
  • Demonstrated highly effective leadership of diverse groups of blue and white-collar people
  • Flexibility in spending several days at a time being away from home
  • Accustomed to being exposed to challenging physical environments which involves, dirt, odor, noise, weather extremes or similar elements
  • Broad Knowledge of environmental and health/safety regulations and laws
  • Bachelor’s Degree, preferably in engineering, the sciences, or business.
  • Knowledge of waste hauling, recycling, and disposal operating systems
