Job Description
Job Summary


The Medical Social Worker (MSW) is responsible for the evaluation, planning and provision of psychosocial and emotional care to patients and their families in order to meet the goals and objectives of the patient’s social service needs. The MSW is part of a multi-disciplinary team who promotes standards of quality and care that contribute to the organizations mission of compassion, faith and excellence. Duties of the Medical Social Worker include, but are not limited to, long-term planning, financial planning, community resources, counseling, and serving as a liaison between the patient, patient’s family/caregivers, and hospice and community agencies. The MSW will play an active role in providing supportive, end-of-life care for the terminally ill patient and their family/caregivers through bereavement care and counseling while maintaining the dignity of the dying patient.


Minimum Qualifications


Education : Masters Degree from an accredited school of Social Work required.


Experience: Minimum of 2 years of experience in a healthcare setting, with at least 1 year of experience dealing with bereavement and/or grief & loss required; hospice experience preferred.


Licensure/Certification: Currently licensed by the State Board of Social Work Examiners for S.C. Current CPR certification is required.

Knowledge/Skills: Understands Hospice philosophy and issues related to death/dying including the principles of pain/symptom management. Demonstrates organizational and time management techniques, along with good verbal and written communication skills. Knowledge of community resources and governmental assistance programs, along with knowledge of governmental regulations and Joint Commission standards. Demonstrates exceptional customer service and interpersonal skills. Competency and verification of skills may be required.


Other: R equires operation of a vehicle for Roper St. Francis Healthcare business. Due to this job requirement, the selected candidate/employee must possess a valid, current driver's license.
