Social Media & Digital Content Manager (Public Communication Specialist II)
In this position you will lead the City’s digital content strategy and execute comprehensive, high quality, and engaging content through various social media platforms. You must have a passion for engaging online and the know-how to creatively reach a wide audience through a variety of channels. Experience creating impactful social media content and memorable campaigns is a must. We are looking for a person with the ability to tell stories and find ways to make government messages exciting and relatable, transforming the ordinary into the extraordinary.

Essential Functions -
the basic job duties an employee must be able to perform:
  • Plan and create compelling social media content and digital campaigns to build community and trust in government
  • Analyze communications needs and develop strategic digital campaigns for specific City departments
  • Manage the City’s interactions with residents through social media and communicate with followers by monitoring comments and responding to queries with accurate information in a timely and courteous manner
  • Assist with managing content on ColoradoSprings.gov. Work with City departments to update information about services and programs and write engaging web pages and blog content.
  • Maintain the City’s social media policy, accessibility guidelines and best practices, and conduct training for City social media admins on these practices
  • Promote City programs and services using videos, photos, infographics or text posts on social media platforms
  • Generate, edit, publish and share engaging content daily across multiple platforms
  • Design and implement an overall social media strategy to align with the goals of the mayor, City administration and City departments, and communicate effectively to all residents and stakeholders
  • Assist City departments with managing accounts on various social media platforms including, but not limited to, Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, Instagram, YouTube and Nextdoor
  • Manage the City of Colorado Springs’ primary social media accounts: @CityofCOS, @MayorofCOS and @OlympicCity USA Develop and maintain a specific persona for each account and platform
  • Provide 24-hour on-call assistance approximately one week per month and communicate to the public in crisis situations
We are looking for candidates who demonstrate:
Knowledge of:
  • Modern office technology, especially Microsoft Office suite
  • Public relations and crisis communications best practices
  • Social media platforms and latest trends
Ability to:
  • Prioritize, organize, and manage multiple projects from a variety of different departments
  • Evaluate and resolve complex issues
  • Excel in a fast-paced environment
  • Communicate clearly and concisely, orally, and in writing to various levels of stakeholders
  • Analyze problems, identify alternative solutions, and make recommendations
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships
  • Provide excellent organizational and customer service skills

Successful candidates will have

  • Three (3) years of full–time public relations, communications, digital media content creation, or marketing experience
  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with major coursework in communications, marketing, journalism, media, or a related field
One (1) year of the appropriate type and level of experience may be substituted for each required year of post-high school education.
Additional appropriate education may be substituted for the minimum experience requirements.

Ideal candidates will also have

  • Bi-lingual in Spanish
  • A minimum of two (2) years experience managing multiple social and digital channels for a government, non-profit, media or business

Additional Information

The City of Colorado Springs offers additional compensation depending on the position, area of assignment, and specific job assignments, including shift differential, pay differential, acting or lead, special assignment, hazard pay, longevity, cell phone allowance, uniform allowance, relocation, awards, standby, call out, compensatory time off, tuition, overtime, extra duty, incentive, holiday premium, proficiency, and vacation sell back.
