Position Description


Ryerson has an opportunity for a Shift Area Leader. As a Shift Area Leader, you are responsible for directing the efficient function of plant operations and understanding production goals to implement actions necessary to meet objectives.

This position is 2nd shift. The hours for this position are Monday-Friday 1:00pm-9:00pm or until the work is complete.


Roles And Responsibilities


  • Understand customer requirements, participate and advise on decisions regarding suitability of material and processing capabilities
  • Understand quality goals and implement actions necessary to meet goals
  • All other duties as assigned or duties, responsibilities, and activities may change at any time with or without notice
  • Review unsafe conditions and ensure corrective actions are carried out to eliminate workplace hazards
  • Ensure training is effectively carried out and oversee completion of training checklist
  • Carry out and support company policy, goals and objectives
  • Communicate with other departments within facility as well as other Ryerson locations


Position Requirements


  • Mechanical aptitude and experience operating machinery
  • Working knowledge of MS Office applications (Outlook, Word, Excel)
  • Training certifications preferred in forklift operations, crane operations and First Aid/CPR
  • Experience in factory or warehouse (metals warehouse preferred)
  • Demonstrated verbal, written and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work independently
  • Experience in Kaizen, 5S, and Lean principles a plus
  • Knowledge of and ability to use tape measure, micrometer and caliper a must
  • Demonstrated willingness to learn and improve oneself
  • HS Diploma or GED required
