Job Description

Director of Operations

Big Dog Ranch Rescue (“BDRR”) is a one-of-a-kind dog rescue facility located in Loxahatchee Groves, Florida. We are seeking an experienced and self-motivated Director of Operations to manage the day-to-day operational processes and to ensure superb care of the dogs in our care. Under the general supervision of the Board President, the candidate will optimize our operating capabilities, develop strategies, provide inspired leadership to our management team, and develop a collaborative culture. The successful candidate must be detailed oriented and observant. This is a hands-on position and experience in the operation of a mid-large size non-profit animal shelter is a plus. A love of dogs is a MUST.

Duties and Responsibilities

· Fine tune, enhance, and implement operational policies, procedures, and training materials

· Develop and equip all workers with necessary skills to accomplish the organizational mission and goals. This includes serving as the primary resource to create and improve training program and conduct hands-on initial and ongoing training.

· Directs the work of staff overseeing the daily feeding, cleaning and care of animals sheltered by the Ranch. Manager needs to be visible and hands-on.

· Work with and mentor direct reports to plan and schedule work of staff assigned to multiple shifts to ensure facility is cleaned, care is provided, and works with the medical team to ensure medical concerns are communicated to the medical team and ensure special diets are given; implement animal moves to make room for transports and complete specialized cleaning protocols on a seven days a week basis

· Work with and mentor Direct reports to properly plan and schedule the work of assigned staff to ensure a clean, safe working environment with efficient operations

· Oversees work activities of animal care staff, front desk customer service staff, maintenance staff and volunteers associated with the care, fostering and adoption of animals

· Serves as the lead resource for service recovery and customer concerns.

· Monitor animal welfare at the Ranch and ensure compliance with applicable laws and regulations

· Optimize productivity and analyze current budget for staffing and animal care expenses, assists with preparation of future budget.

· Prepare a monthly report to include projects, goals, benchmarks and progress as well as share information in a timely manner

· Identify and address problems and opportunities

· Liaison between administration and employees, effectively managing the human resources according to the approved personnel policies that conform to laws and regulations in conjunction with HR.

· Monitors work performance, oversees employee performance evaluations, initiates and enforces disciplinary actions, and helps recruit the staff

· Direct and oversee the maintenance of the facility including developing a schedule of routine maintenance, including lawn maintenance, custodial, air-conditioning service, painting and repairs

· Procure and inventory need supplies and materials for Ranch operations and animal care

· Create an environment that promotes great performance and positive moral, based on a climate of accountability and respect

· This if full time position, rotating shifts dependent on needs as well as some weekends and holidays.

Requirements and Qualifications

· Bachelor’s degree in a relevant discipline

· 3-5 years of experience in a senior management position

· Ability to build consensus and relationships

· Understanding of human resources and personnel management

· Outstanding verbal and written skills

· Ability to work with staff at all levels

· Ability to work under pressure, plan personal workload effectively and delegate

· 2-5 years Senior Management experience with an animal rescue, shelter, or hospital

· Evidence of strong leadership skills and experience in supervising staff
