Job Description
Summary You will serve as a Sheet Metal Worker (Aircraft) in the MRO Production Department of FLTREADCEN EAST. This announcement uses the Certain Personnel of the DoD direct hire authority to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service. Responsibilities You will use measuring instruments such as steel rules, drill gauges, compasses, and other precision-measuring devices. You will manufacture and install patches, splices, reinforcements and the use of replacement parts to repair damaged components. You will assemble metal components designed for aircraft use such as solids rivets, blind rivets, bolts, screws, and other hardware identified in applicable references. You will works with plastics and various metals such as aluminum, titanium, steel, stainless steel, and alloys in the forms of sheet metal, extrusions, tubing, honeycomb, castings, etc. Requirements Conditions of Employment Qualifications Although a specific length of time and experience is not required for most trade and labor occupations, you must show through experience and training that you possess the quality level of knowledge and skill necessary to perform the duties of the position at the level for which you are applying. Qualification requirements emphasis is on quality of experience, not necessarily the length of time. Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the job elements and screen out listed below. This job has a screen-out element which will be used to determine minimum eligibility for this job. Applicants who do not receive a minimum of two points on the screen-out element(s) will be found ineligible. The Screen-out Element for this position is: I have the ability to perform common tasks including: 1) Checking and realigning components using available jigs and fixtures after replacing structural parts or reinstalling fittings; 2) Utilizing hand power tools and metal working tools to repair, manufacture, and/or modify aircraft or aircraft engine assemblies or parts; and 3) Utilizing precision measuring instruments such as steel rules, drill gauges and compasses. I work under close supervision of a work leader or journey-level employee who observes tasks in progress and upon completion to make sure they are properly performed.
