About the Department
NC State’s ServiceNow team provides application development and administrative support for multiple colleges and administrative departments across campus. We embrace Agile methodologies in a collaborative environment as we develop and support workflows, process automation, integrations and service portals across ITSM, ITOM and HR modules and various custom scoped applications. We define and deliver solutions that are scalable and secure while consistently improving user experience and operational efficiency.

Essential Job Duties
The ServiceNow Developer will play an important role in supporting the implementation, configuration and maintenance of the ServiceNow platform at NC State University. As a member of the Technology Support Services (TSS) team, the ServiceNow Developer will work closely with a talented team of developers and administrators to design, develop, test and deploy ServiceNow solutions that meet the needs of various university departments. This position offers an excellent opportunity for growth and learning within a dynamic and collaborative environment.
Key Responsibilities:
  • Conduct thorough testing of ServiceNow configurations, modules, and customizations to ensure high-quality and error-free deliverables.
  • Assist in the implementation and configuration of ServiceNow ITSM modules, including Incident Management, Change Management, Service Catalog, Service Portal and other platform capabilities, as per university requirements.
  • Stay updated with ServiceNow best practices, new features, and industry trends to recommend improvements and innovative solutions.
  • Collaborate with other developers to configure and enhance ServiceNow applications, workflows, and forms to improve system functionality and user experience.
  • Work with Product Owners and Scrum Teams in requirements decomposition, backlog refinement, and breakdown of user stories and tasks.
  • Develop and maintain ServiceNow scripts, business rules, workflows, and other configuration elements to support process automation and integration with other systems.
  • Participate in gathering and analyzing user requirements and translate them into technical specifications.
  • Demonstrate a commitment to maintaining the confidentiality, integrity, and availability of university data and adhere to IT security policies and procedures.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including IT support, infrastructure, and security teams, to ensure smooth integration and operation of ServiceNow with other university systems and processes.
  • Contribute to the documentation of technical designs, development processes, and user guides to facilitate knowledge sharing and training.
  • Assist in troubleshooting and resolving ServiceNow platform issues and providing timely support to end-users.

Minimum Education and Experience
Entry-level with Masters or BA/BS degree in IT field or equivalent combination of education, training and experience.

Technical Skills:
  • Experience with the following software languages: JavaScript, Powershell, HTML.

Preferred Qualifications
  • DevOps, Lean, Agile or Scrum training, certifications and experience.
  • Knowledge of and experience with web technologies, including XML and Web Services.
  • Familiarity with software development testing processes and tools, automated test frameworks.
  • Exposure to database concepts and SQL queries.
  • Strong understanding of software development principles and methodologies.
  • Experience with catalog builder, workflow editor or flow designer.
  • ServiceNow CSA certification
  • Ability to provide recommendations on system access control.
  • ITSM V3 or V4 certifications and process experience.
  • Knowledge of and experience with ServiceNow forms, fields, views, lists, UI policy and actions, and client and server scripts.
  • Hands-on experience with ServiceNow development and configuration.
