Service Attendant Jobs

General Statement of Job Duties: The position performs daily servicing, inspecting, and cleaning of buses and other Triangle Transit Authority vehicles and removal of vaults from fare boxes.
Essential Duties And Responsibilities

• Handles periodic maintenance work on service equipment such as the bus washer.
• Observes and reports torn seats, rotting floors, cracked windows, loose mirrors, worn or damaged tires, fluid leaks, improper or unusual odors, etc.
• Ensures proper safety tools and equipment are used at all times and understands the requirement for reporting Safety hazards and/or violations.
• Performs other duties as directed by the Maintenance Manager.
• Assists mechanics with minor maintenance, as requested.
• Performs custodial building maintenance in the garage, such as sweeping and washing floors.
• Has complete knowledge of and maintains compliance with all Safety rules and regulations.
• Conducts routine, daily servicing of buses such as adding fuel, checking and adding fluids and coolants, cleaning interiors, washing exteriors and emptying vaults from fare boxes, checking tires for tread wear and correct pressure.

Minimum Knowledge, Skills And Abilities

• High school diploma or GED preferred but not required.
• Must be able to meet the Department of Transportation's physical requirements and maintain a valid DOT card.
• Ability to operate adjustable hand wrenches, screwdrivers and similar hand tools, air wrenches, fuel pumps and fare boxes.
• Six years driving experience, possession of a good driving record, and the ability to drive in all types of adverse weather.
• Must have or be able to obtain a class B Commercial Driver's License with a passenger endorsement.
• Prior bus or heavy vehicle driving experience is preferred.
• Must be able to report to work during Adverse Weather conditions.

Working Conditions
The primary work environment is the garage facility. Individual must be constantly aware of the hazards associated with this environment. Physical effort will periodically require bending, heavy lifting, reaching and carrying, sometimes up a flight of stairs.
Work hours: Sun-Thurs, Sunday 5:45am to 2:15pm, Mon-Thurs, 7:30am - 4pm.
