Senior Steel Detailer's primary responsibility is to develop and coordinate shop, field work, and erection drawings with as-built drawings and setup project requirements to coincide with production, operations, quality assurance, and field operations.
Major Duties & Responsibilities
- Adhere to all administrative policies, procedures, and standards.
- Other duties as assigned
- Check technical accuracy of work.
- Train and mentor both internal and external detailers.
- Develop and coordinate shop, field work, and erection drawings with as-built drawings and set up project requirements to coincide with production, operations, quality assurance, and field operations.
- Develop overall concepts for a systematic approach in resolving drawing issues.
- Develop deliverable plan to meet project construction schedules.
- Create and/or check accurate Erection Plans, Field Work, and Shop Details.

Skills & Abilities
- Must have a good understanding of standard structural steel fabrication process.
- Ability to process and verify field data accuracy
- Must have strong problem-solving skills and be able to maintain sound engineering and drafting principles while being able to transate design drawings, specifications, and other contract documents into erection plans, shop drawings, and field work drawings.
- Proficiency with AutoCAD is a minimum requirement. Candidates with a background in advanced detailing software (such as Inventor, TEKLA, SolidWorks, Advance Steel, etc.) are preferred.
- Ability to calculate alignments and profiles from documents or digital files
- Must have thourough knowledge of the AISC Steel Construction Manual.
- Minimum 8-10 years detailing / checking structural steel experience required. Steel detailing experience for building new and the rehabilitation of major bridge structures is preferred. A miscellaneous steel detailing background may be considered.
- Ability to generate deliverables such as reports or drawings
- Understand how to generate line work for use with survey
- Knowledge of AISC connections and design standards as well as Code of Standard practice.
- Must have good communication skills in order to give clear and concise direction to others.
