Job Description
The Identity engineering team is hiring a Senior Software Engineers to build and manage Microsoft’s online identity providers. We have open positions at multiple levels. The Identity engineering team builds and manages Microsoft’s online identity providers for all of Microsoft’s online services and platforms like Azure, Office, Xbox, and HoloLens. We pursue big ideas that power transformational advances in online security and user management. Our work spans both the consumer and enterprise space and can be found in internet scale online services, the Windows operating system and most phones and handheld devices.

Responsibilities

  • You will gain a working understanding of Microsoft businesses and collaborate with mentors and leaders to contribute to cohesive, end-to-end experiences for our users, focusing on customer/partner needs through a data-driven approach.
  • As a Senior Software Engineer, you will design and develop large scale distributed software services and solutions that have a real impact on our customers and partners.
  • You will participate in on-call rotations to support and debug customer-reported issues as well as internally created service incidents, demonstrating your commitment to providing the best possible service to our customers.
  • You will improve test coverage for our services, organize and implement integration tests, and resolve problem areas to ensure that our services are testable, portable, and maintainable.
  • You will troubleshoot and optimize automation, reliability, and monitoring for Live Site, ensuring that our services are always up and running for our customers.
  • You will drive modern software engineering practices through design reviews, ensuring that our services are built to the highest standards and are scalable, secure, and reliable.
  • You will work on system design through well-defined interfaces across multiple components, leveraging data/telemetry to make informed decisions, and conducting code reviews to ensure that our services are modularized, actively monitored, and reusable.

Qualifications

Required/Minimum Qualifications:
  • Working knowledge with any of the following Web / Networking Protocols: TCP / UDP / IP, TLS, HTTP, QUIC, DNS
  • Experience with Modern Unix / Linux Distributions
  • Experience in using Modern Software Development Infrastructure and Practices: K8s, Containers, CI / CD, Automated Testing.
  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, or related technical discipline AND 4+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python
  • OR equivalent experience.
Other Requirements:
  • Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings: Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud Background Check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.
Additional or Preferred Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 8+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python
  • OR Master's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 6+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python
  • Contributions to Open-Source Software Projects
  • Experience in Designing & Implementing Secure & Highly Available Distributed Systems.
  • Proficient in any modern continuous delivery/deployment systems is a plus, but we also value experience with other software development methodologies and tools. If you have experience with other systems or tools, we encourage you to apply and share your knowledge with our team.
  • Contributions to open-source software projects are a plus, but we also value other forms of community involvement and collaboration. If you have experience working on other types of projects or have contributed to other communities, we encourage you to apply.
  • OR equivalent experience.
  • Familiarity with Linux, networking protocols, L3/4 firewalls, L7 proxy (nginx, envoy, ha-proxy) is desirable but not required. Software Engineering IC4 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $112,000 - $218,400 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $145,800 - $238,600 per year.
