Oversee the operation of a specific functionality within the Pharmacy Services Department by acting as lead. Assigns work; monitors work flow; analyzes statistics; ensures quality assurance and provides direction to staff within the parameters of the assigned function. Schedules, trains and coordinates other Pharmacy Technicians as well as performs the functions of a Pharmacy Technician
Education/Experience:
Equivalent to graduation from high school; three (3) years of experience as a pharmacy technician.
Licensing/Certification Requirements:
Valid State of Nevada Certification as a Pharmacy Technician.
CPhT Certification. Valid Nevada Driver's license. A minimum of three (3) years inpatient Pharmacy Technician experience and one year in lead role.
Knowledge of:
Federal, state and/or county guidelines, rules and regulations associated with the distribution of medications; pharmacy standards of practice; basics of drug indications and drug interactions; medical terminology; trade and generic drug names; basic compounding techniques; aseptic compounding technique; personal and mainframe computers; routes of administration for standard medications; storage requirements for standard medications; department and hospital safety practices and procedures; patient rights; age specific patient care practices; infection control policies and practices; handling, storage, use and disposal of hazardous materials; department and hospital emergency response policies and procedures.
Skill in:
Coordinating staff schedules to cover work flow; evaluating quality control; assigning and monitoring the work of others; Applying basic knowledge of appropriate dosage and frequency for standard medications; utilizing equipment associated with area of responsibility; utilizing a computer and specific application software; performing pharmaceutical calculations; preparing and maintaining accurate counts and records; organizing and prioritizing work; applying aseptic technique to compounding medications; communicating with a wide variety of people from diverse socio-economic and ethnic backgrounds; establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with all personnel contacted in the course of duties; efficient, effective and safe use of equipment.
Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:
Mobility to work in a typical clinical setting and use standard equipment, stamina to remain standing and/or walk for extended periods of time, vision to read printed materials and VDT screens, hearing and speech to communicate effectively in-person and over the telephone. Strength and agility to exert up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects. The work requires handling medications classified as hazardous materials.
