Introduction

The Loudoun County Department of Health seeks a talented and highly motivated individual to serve as a Senior Nutritionist in the Loudoun WIC program.

Under the general direction of the Nutrition Program Manager, provides nutrition services as a Registered Dietician and the Breastfeeding Coordinator for the County's Women, Infants, and Children (WIC) Supplemental Food Program. This position analyzes diets of program participants; calculates the nutritional adequacy of meals based on Recommended Dietary Allowance (RDA), determines client nutritional needs according to lifecycle stage of client, tailors food packages, evaluates medical/nutritional history and interprets lab results, and provides educational training on nutrition to the community.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  • Conducts community education and outreach; raises public awareness of program and available benefits; identifies methods and venues to share information about programs and activities.
  • Maintains inventory of breastfeeding supplies. Orders breastfeeding supplies and education materials as needed.
  • Provides nutritional services to clients who are eligible for the Women, Infant and Children (WIC) program.
  • Provides nutrition and breastfeeding education for WIC participants, staff, and community groups.
  • Processes special formula and concentrated formula requests, nutritional & special formula needed for tube feeding.
  • Oversees Breastfeeding Peer Counselors, oversees breast pump loaners and serves as breastfeeding subject matter expert.
  • Provides follow-up and coordination of nutritional care with Health care providers.
  • Documents care plans according to federal and state regulations and Department policies and procedures.

Hiring salary is commensurate with experience.

Job Requirements

Bachelor's degree in nutrition, dietetics, or a related field and satisfactory completion of a program of supervised clinical experience approved by the Commission on Dietetic Registration of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics; or related qualification requirements as defined by the Code of Virginia Chapter 27.1 of Title 54.1 Dietitians and Nutritionist; One
(1) year of relevant experience.

Preferred:

  • Proficiency in recordkeeping and in use of Microsoft Office software applications.
  • Position requires the candidates to be proactive, exercise good judgment, use critical thinking skills, be organized and have excellent customer service skills.
  • Positions may require active registration as a Dietitian by the Commission on Dietetic Registration
  • Bilingual
  • Clear oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to adapt to changes in a fast-paced environment.

Special Requirements

  • Meet WIC continuing education requirements.
  • Obtain any Department-required certifications within established time frames of hire.
  • TB test within 10 days of hire. Hold or obtain First Aid/CPR certifications at hire or within four (4) months.
  • Vaccination or proof of vaccination as required for Health Care Personnel by the Virginia Department of Health.

Post Conditional Offer Contingencies

Criminal background check, fingerprinting, and Child Protective Services (CPS) check required. Positions may require active registration as a Dietitian by the Commission on Dietetic Registration, the credentialing agency for the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics or other certification or license as defined by Code of Virginia Chapter 27.1 of Title 54.1 Dietitians and Nutritionists.
