Job Title: Senior Mechanical Design Engineer
Department: Design Engineering
Reports to: Design Engineering Manager
Summary
To lead mechanical design of single-phase padmount and three-phase padmount transformers in the range of 10 KVA to 10 MVA with primary voltages up to 34.5 kV (200kV BIL).
A strong candidate will have knowledge and experience in the following areas: Shellform Transformers, Distribution Transformers, Substation Transformers, Medium Voltage, Electrical & Mechanical Structural Design, Transformer Protection (including fusing, breakers, arresters, etc.), 2D CAD Drawings, Schematics and Line Diagrams, 3D Modeling, and SolidWorks Assemblies
Responsibilties
·Lead mechanical design of three-phase padmounted distribution transformers in the range of 10 KVA to 10 MVA
with primary voltages up to 34.5 kV (200kV BIL)
·Provide technical direction for design and manufacturing of all distribution transformer products
·Train new Design Engineers and Mechanical Designers on design parameters and internal programs
·Develop and review new/existing department software and estimating tools
·Lead product optimization and cost reduction projects to reduce unit cost
·Assist Customer Service department with order processing and load bill of materials and pricing into ERP system
·Review and revise material specification requirements with vendors and suppliers. Assist Supply Chain
department with material changes, drawing revisions, consolidation projects, and commodity cost reduction.
Knowledge/Skills Requirements
·4 Year Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering, and/or Power Systems
·10 years of experience with Transformer Design, Manufacturing, Testing, and/or Field Service
·5 years of that experience must be in the direct design of three-phase padmount transformer equipment
including Core & Coil design, clamping structures, tank design, etc.
·7 years of experience using AutoCAD 2D or comparable software
·3 years of experience using Solidworks 3D or comparable software
·Fluent in English
Preferred Additional Skills
·Microsoft Access, Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Outlook, Infor ERP, Inventor
·Some programming experience in Fortran, Visual Basic, and/or C#
·Some competency in Spanish and ability to read vendor specifications
Job Details
·Job Type: Full-time, Salaried
·Schedule: Monday to Friday, 8am – 5pm
·Work Location: Remote in the United States
oCandidate must reside in US and be available to visit customers for testing, installation, field service, etc.
oCandidate must be able to travel domestically in the US to suppliers, vendors, trade shows, etc.
oInternational travel to Mexico is required approximately 10-15%
·Sponsorship: Yes.Candidates with proper experience will be eligible for visa sponsorship.
