Job Description

Stanford's Graduate School of Business has built a global reputation based on its immersive and innovative management programs. We provide students a transformative leadership experience, pushing the boundaries of knowledge with faculty research, and offering a portfolio of entrepreneurial and non-degree programs that deliver global impact like no other. We are committed to advancing diversity, equity, and inclusion in service of our mission of developing innovative, principled, and insightful leaders who change lives, change organizations, and change the world. We invite you to be part of this mission.

Join a creative and talented team that is working to shape the future of teaching and learning at the Stanford Graduate School of Business (GSB). As part of the Learning Design and Technology (LDT) team within the Teaching and Learning Hub, the Senior Learning Management System (LMS) Administrator and Technologist will play a vital role in leading projects to incorporate technology into teaching and learning at the GSB. LDT designs, develops, and supports solutions to provide meaningful, equitable, and inclusive learning, increased student engagement, and a smooth instructional experience. The team works on academic programs (MBA, MSx, PhD), as well as Executive Education and other public-facing programs.

As a senior LMS administrator and technologist, you will apply instructional design methodologies to provide expertise and support in the design, development, implementation, and evaluation of face-to-face, hybrid, and online courses. You will administer and provide technical support for learning platforms used by the GSB (e.g., Canvas, NovoEd) as well as additional technology that may integrate with existing platforms. You will work closely with faculty, learning experience designers, instructional technologists, software developers, and the Associate Director, Academic Technologies at the GSB’s Knight Management Center. You will ensure that technology used for teaching and learning will meet accessibility, privacy and security requirements. You will help foster the school’s world-class learning by promoting the signature GSB learning experience and helping faculty excel in the classroom.

The successful candidate will be excited to collaborate with other team members in projects and consultations that support faculty in their teaching. In addition to demonstrating effectiveness in assessing educational technology needs and creative problem solving, you have exceptional communication and interpersonal skills. You are flexible with projects and willing to pivot if needs shift unexpectedly or with time.

Please Note: This position requires regular, on-site work at the Stanford GSB campus, but a full-time on-campus presence is not required for this role.

Your primary responsibilities include:

  • Lead complex academic technology projects with wide impact at the university. Lead teams in designing tools or applications to solve learning, curricular, and/or co-curricular needs.
  • Lead the development of resources, seminars, courses, or workshops to disseminate information about uses of technology.
  • Initiate and lead projects to develop innovative uses of technology for student learning and/or community building. Consult on development of software applications, or work with on- or off-campus resources to develop or adapt software solutions.
  • Provide outreach and advocacy within and across departments for effective uses of educational technology. Provide departmental and campus leadership for using technology in teaching and learning.
  • Provide expertise and support in applying instructional design methodologies to the development, implementation, and evaluation of face-to-face, hybrid, and online courses.
  • Serve as a spokesperson and advocate for innovative academic technologies.
  • Provide departmental leadership for using technology in teaching, learning, community building and/or research. Manage or provide assistance in the direct integration of technology into course curricula, extra-curricular and/or co-curricular learning.
  • Actively encourage and support the use of computer-based tools by developing and implementing new tools and resources for instructors or students, assisting them with the tools, disseminating knowledge of these tools throughout the program or university, and creating and supporting an infrastructure that allows use of the tools in teaching and/or learning.
  • Manage vendor relationships.
  • Consult with and help instructors and/or departments to incorporate technologies into faculty course design and curricula and/or co-curricula in support of student learning goals.
  • Coordinate academic learning technology policies, procedures, and support.

To be successful in this position, you will bring:

  • Ability to interact effectively and tactfully with members of the academic community; demonstrated experience working in an environment with colleagues of diverse backgrounds and customs.
  • Ability to quickly adopt new technologies and programming tools.
  • Demonstrated experience in designing applications or tools; thorough understanding of software development life cycle and quality control practices; demonstrated experience with object-oriented programming, scripting, and/or relational databases.
  • Excellent time management and project management skills. Demonstrated ability to manage a complex workload, prioritize tasks, and use good judgment in providing services based on goals.
  • Demonstrated expertise with instructional design methodologies, pedagogical issues, and best practices for classroom, online, and hybrid learning.
  • Excellent leadership skills.
  • Outstanding communication skills with both technical and non-technical clients.
  • Ability to recognize and recommend necessary changes in user and/or operations procedures.
  • Strong understanding of data design, architecture, relational databases and data modeling.
  • Ability to define and solve logical problems for highly technical applications.
  • An advanced degree plus seven years of relevant experience, or combination of education and relevant experience.
  • Demonstrated experience leading activities on structured team development projects.

In addition, preferred requirements include:

  • Experience working on cross-functional teams with media professionals, learning experience designers, academic technologists, and software developers.
