Position Summary: The Senior Database Developer acts as a senior member of the Dev Ops department and is responsible for the overall design, development, testing, release, maintenance, and technical support of HCP’s mission critical data, data feeds, and reporting applications. Primary responsibilities include building and maintaining data definitions and models, database development, as well as ingesting, processing and integrating real time and batch data. The Senior Database Developer provides expert technical skills in the implementation of efficient, adaptable, scalable, and documented data solutions and is accountable for the overall performance of the all developed data related solutions. They are a Microsoft SQL Server expert and adhere to development and data standards and best practices.
Essential Position Functions/Responsibilities:
  • Support the readiness of Business Resiliency drills (Business Continuity and Disaster Recovery Plans), data back-up, recovery and reconciliation testing.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
  • Create and utilize data quality checks to ensure data integrity, security, reliability, and completeness throughout the data lifecycle.
  • Ensure that data solutions meet business requirements and goals, fulfill end-user requirements, and identify and resolve issues.
  • With a focus on high availability, performance, and data reliability, lead the design, development, engineering, and maintenance of end-to-end data pipelines across multiple internal and external data sources and systems.
  • Identify key performance indicators that quantifies SQL performance deliverables to leadership.
  • Design, develop, test, and document data models, data structures, stored procedures, and ETL jobs for data acquisition, manipulation, and distribution purposes.
  • Possess strong skills in relationship management, communications, presentation and mentoring/coaching.
  • Cultivate, disseminate, and enforce Information Technology policies, procedures and best practices, ensuring all Information Technology methodology and processes are followed.
  • Stay current of and propose the usage of new data trends and best practices.
  • Liaise with Information Technology Information Security, Information Technology Operations and Project Management Office to coordinate the delivery of solutions.
  • Attend technical trainings to stay up-to-date on solution trends and new technologies.
  • Possess a deep understanding of the data sources, implemented data standards, data quality needs and master data management.
  • Ensure project management participation with focus on design, development, documentation and implementation.
  • Collaborate with product teams to understand internal and external customer requirements, provide accurate estimates, and adhere to the project deadlines.
  • In partnership with the Data Architect, lead the design and development of new data approaches to enable the quick and easy ingestion and delivery of data.
  • Lead the development of complex ingestions and access layers to process unstructured big data in the most effective and efficient way.

  • Be able to conduct solution testing, debug SQL code, optimize T-SQL performance, and resolve any defects.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of application system infrastructure, technology and concepts in an enterprise Information Technology environment.
  • Work within a change management framework that incorporates distinct development, test, and production environments, solution promotion and deployment processes.
  • Ability to work in a team environment, meet deadlines, mentor, share knowledge and take on responsibility and accountability for assigned areas.
  • Ability to organize and structure a growing inventory of database application assets, and be able to draw and maintain diagrams that can quickly convey the overall context of the environment/solution.
  • Familiarity with Microsoft C# and/or PowerShell is a plus.
Training/Education:
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and related work experience required.

Experience:
  • Minimum of eight (8) years hands-on commercial experience with Microsoft SQL Server, T-SQL/database development, SSIS and ETL.
