Job Description

As a Senior Database Administrator (Oracle), you will support the client on administration processes and procedures in a large medical data warehouse environment. This role will be responsible for providing database architecture and configuration expertise required to perform a modernization assessment of an existing on-premise environment and support an analysis of alternatives to modernize the environment. This includes comparing the current environment against new methods, techniques, and industry best practices, and identifying alternative implementations.


Responsibilities:

  • Collaboration and support: Collaborate with development and infrastructure teams to provide database-related support and expertise. Assist with database-related issues and inquiries, troubleshoot problems, and provide technical guidance on database design, schema changes, and performance optimizations.
  • Performance tuning and optimization: Analyze and optimize database performance through tuning activities such as query optimization, index creation, and system monitoring. Identify and resolve performance bottlenecks to ensure optimal database response times and efficient resource utilization.
  • Database administration: Perform all aspects of Oracle database administration, including installation, configuration, upgrades, and maintenance. Ensure the availability, performance, and security of Oracle databases within the Oracle, WebLogic, and Java environment.
  • Backup and recovery management: Develop and implement robust backup and recovery strategies to protect critical data and ensure high availability. Conduct regular database backups, perform recovery procedures, and test backup integrity to minimize data loss and downtime.

  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Effective project management, time management, and organizational skills.
  • Experience analyzing, tuning, monitoring, and optimizing performance for Oracle databases.
  • Experience collaborating with development and infrastructure teams on database-related support, including troubleshoot problems, and provide technical guidance on database design, schema changes, and performance optimizations.
  • Strong team interaction and collaboration skills.
  • Experience performing all aspects of Oracle database administration (installation, configuration, upgrades, and maintenance), ensuring availability, performance, and security within the Oracle, WebLogic, and Java environment.
  • Detail oriented with strong analytical and organizational skills.


Desired Skills:

  • Strong knowledge of IT development, engineering, integration, and testing processes.
  • Experience supporting Department of Veterans Affairs or other Federal government agencies.
  • Experience within an Agile environment.


Years of Experience: 5-8+ years of related experience (see “Requirements).


Education: Bachelor’s degree in computer science, electronics engineering or other engineering or technical discipline is required (or 8 additional years of relevant experience in lieu of degree).


Location: Remote within the United States. Must have reliable internet service that allows for effective telecommuting as needed.


Clearance: Ability to obtain a government clearance.
