Job Description

Duties

  • Performs a variety of security duties related to the safeguard of personnel, classified information, and equipment. Participates in or executes periodic inventories of classified documents, equipment, and miscellaneous sensitive material.
  • Determines the adequacy of current investigations and decides whether an interim security clearance should be granted or denied.
  • Participates in or conduct preliminary inquiries of potential security violations. Ensures control measures to safeguard and prevent loss of classified material are in place and updated as required.
  • Provides security support for or administer two or more intelligence-related security programs.
  • Participates in or conduct inspections and surveys, evaluates findings, and makes recommendations for corrective action.
  • Evaluates the authenticity, veracity, and pertinence of data to the case at hand and requests additional investigations or develops other information as needed.

  • May require Temporary Duty (TDY) travel up to 25% of the time.
  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • Must obtain the following core SPeD Certification: Security Fundamentals Professional Certification (SFPC) within the first two years of employment.
  • Two year trial/probationary period may be required.
  • Security Professional Education Development (SPeD) Certification Program position. (See NOTE in Qualifications section for more details)
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a TOP SECRET (TS) security clearance with eligibility for Sensitive Compartmented Information (SCI) based on a T5 (or equivalent) investigation.
  • In accordance with Change 3 to AR 600-85, Alcohol and Drug Abuse Prevention and Control Program, individual must successfully pass a urinalysis screening for illegal drug use prior to appointment and periodically thereafter.

In order to qualify, you must meet the education and/or experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. To qualify based on your experience, your resume must describe at least one year of experience which prepared you to do the work in this job. Specialized experience is defined as:
  • Experience analyzing, and interpreting regulations, directives, and procedures governing the granting of security clearances; AND
  • Experience conducting security inspections to ensure safeguarding of classified/unclassified information; AND
  • Experience providing advice on the protection of classified and other sensitive information.
This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GG/GS-09).
OR
Completed a Ph.D or equivalent doctoral degree or 3 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree or LL.M. in a field which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to perform the work of the position, such as: Intelligence and National Security; Security Management; International Security; Homeland Security; Strategic Security, etc.
OR
Possession of the specialized experience as described above, but less than one year; and completion of at least two years of graduate education as described above, but less than the required three years. Compute the percentage of the requirements that you meet, and the total is at least 100% (To compute the percentage, divide your total months of qualifying experience by 12. Then, divide your semester hours of graduate education beyond the second year (total graduate semester hours minus 36) by 18. Add the two percentages. The total percentage must equal at least 100 percent to qualify.).

Specialized experience is progressively responsible intelligence-related security work directly related to the position being filled. It is approved by the Assistant Secretary of the Army for Manpower and Reserve Affairs for use in the Army via the following memorandum: Memorandum,Assistant Secretary of Army for Manpower and Reserve Affairs, dated 8 September 2015, subject:Security Professional Education Development (SPeD) Certification Program. The SPeD certification is DoD's initiative to professionalize the security workforce by establishing a common set of competencies for security practitioners that promotes interoperability, facilitates professional development and training, and develops a workforce of certified security professionals. This position requires the incumbent obtain the following core SPeD Certification: Security Fundamentals Professional Certification (SFPC) within their first two years of employment.
