Job Description

General Summary: The Security Officer is responsible for ensuring the safety and security of all guests, employees, and volunteers on property by conducting the appropriate patrols and post as assigned by the Security Supervisor. The Security Officer can be assigned to do any of the daily posts during their shift, which can include monitoring cameras, mobile patrol, parking lot patrol, or a stationary post. The Security Officer is responsible for completing Incident Reports and Activity Reports when appropriate. The Security Officer will receive a set schedule which is subject to change at the discretion of the Security Supervisor. The day and time that an officer work can change depending on the needs of the department (for example: during special events). Shifts are 8-hour shifts with a 5 on/ 2 off rotation.


To deliver on the Audubon mission, the Security Officer will:


Provide a guest experience of outstanding quality.

  • Become familiar with Standard Operating Guidelines and Memorandums.
  • Enforces the policies and procedures of the organization and department.
  • Follow daily post orders and protocols as assigned by the Security Supervisor.
  • Address all issues and concerns from guests and staff.
  • Completes an End of Watch Report daily or as directed.
  • Follow the uniform policy and acceptable behavior as described by the Audubon Image, the Employee Handbook, and the Department SOPs and Memorandums.
  • Attends and relays all necessary information during the inter-shift briefings.
  • Remains alert and situationally aware throughout the entire shift.
  • Work with the Security Supervisor and other team members to ensure adequate coverage of the property.
  • Documents reports and activities in the electronic reporting application.


Weave quality entertainment through the guest experience.

  • Reports any accidents or incidents to the Security Supervisor in a timely manner.
  • Answer the radio and phone, and respond appropriately when requested.
  • Performs duties that coincide with the post orders appropriately and thoroughly.
  • Look for and report any potential hazards immediately.
  • Documents all incidents and activities handled appropriately to ensure proper record keeping.
  • Attends and participates in trainings or meetings offered by Audubon Nature Institute, outside agencies, or others as recommended by the Director.
  • Ensures all equipment is maintained and in working condition.
  • Ensures familiarity with the schedule and arrives promptly each day.

Operate a financially self-sufficient collection of museums and parks.

  • Submits time off requests in a timely manner.
  • Punches in and out of work at the appropriate time for each shift.
  • Follows the appropriate call-off policy.

Experience:

  • One (1) years of experience in Security or a similar position preferred


Education:

  • High school diploma required

Licensure/Certification:

  • CPR certified preferred

Software Requirements:

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, and Outlook).
  • Comfortable utilizing computers
  • Electronic incident report and activity software (GuardMetrics)

Machinery/Tools/Equipment Requirements:

  • Working knowledge of vehicle operation (Golf Carts, Motor Vehicle, Bicycles).
  • Must have the ability to use mobile devices, computer, fax, scanner, and two-way radio.


Physical Requirements:

1. Sedentary Work: exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, or a negligible amount of force frequently to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects, including the human body. Involves long periods of sitting, standing, and walking.

2. Sitting or standing, bending, stooping, and the ability to carry items weighing up to 50 pounds.

3. Constant adequate range of motion and mobility required.

4. Regular near acuity with clarity of vision at 20 inches or less required.

5. Typical ability to collect and analyze numerical and written data and verbal information to reach logical conclusions and ability to determine the time, place and sequence of operations or actions required.

6. Regular talking and the ability to express and exchange ideas by means of language expected.

7. Regular hearing and the ability to perceive the nature of sounds.

8. Constant ability to read, record, or type data quickly and accurately required.


Environmental/Working Conditions:

1. Working long hours between breaks or meals required.

2. Ability to work under and handle stress in an appropriate manner required.

3. May be exposed to high, medium, or low noise intensity.

4. Constant contact with co-workers required.

5. Affinity for animals preferred.

6. Exposure to fluctuations in temperatures may be required.

7. Exposure to outdoor conditions may be required.

8. Willingness and ability to work weekends and holidays.
