Description & Requirements
This position in our Glenview- IL Kraft Heinz Innovation center provides an excellent opportunity to build and apply scientific expertise in microstructure (from light microscopy to electron microscopy) to a wide range of leading food products and related food systems in a fast-paced rewarding environment. The position emphasizes cross-functional problem solving- hands-on technical analysis that exploit microstructural/textural understanding for science-driven product development and stewardship.
Candidate will collaborate with product development scientists on variety of projects. This is an ideal opportunity for a laboratory-focused scientist who enjoys integrating their findings into cohesive explanations of what is happening at the microstructural level in food ingredients and processing. The successful candidate will be evaluated on communication skills and potential for demonstrating technical leadership within a scientifically and culturally diverse organization.
Responsibilities
  • The candidate will lead microstructure analysis using various microscopy techniques established internally.
  • Lead multiple projects focusing on delivering microstructure characterization to support product and package development.
  • Support business brand maintenance to ensure business continuity across multiple categories as needed.
  • Will collaborate with internal clients- including R&D- Quality and Factory personnel.
  • Will interact with equipment/instrument manufacturers- external lab partners- suppliers.
  • Manage multiple assignments/tasks concurrently with the ability to question the priority of work
  • Support consumer complaints analysis following ISO 17025 accredited protocols after receiving comprehensive training.
Qualifications
  • Good organizational skills- time management and attention to detail.
  • Excellent interpersonal & project management skills
  • Hands on experience and/or knowledge of Confocal Laser Scanning Microscopy & Scanning Electron Microscopy is plus.
  • Ability to build strong customer/client relationships
  • Excellent laboratory experimentation and data analysis skills
  • Exploit advanced imaging acquisition and quantification tools such as Zeiss Zen and Leica LAS software. AI and Machine learning for microscope and image data analysis are highly desirable.
  • Hands on experience and/or knowledge of a variety of analytical techniques including light microscopy- and/or chemical compositional analysis such as Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) and X-ray fluorescence (XRF).
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • TRAVEL 0-10%
  • B.S. degree in biology- chemistry- biochemistry- or related field with 4-year experience or M.S degree in related field with 2-year experience
