Science Education Strategist Jobs

Position Objective:

To research, evaluate, and define non-animal methods of teaching science and communicate them to educators, professional organizations, government officials, teacher unions, and the public, with special attention to educators in Florida.

Primary Responsibilities and Duties:

• Draft and review letters and technical briefs on non-animal teaching methods
• Perform any other duties assigned by the supervisor
• Assist with lobbying efforts to end dissection throughout the United States
• Research and evaluate humane dissection tools and animal use in science education
• Help organize efforts, keep notes, and track goals and progress with campaigns
• Stay up to date and coordinate actions and response on ways educators and schools use animals in the classroom (“bottle biology,” pithing, chick hatching, etc.)
• Assist with maintaining database of schools, educators, and teachers’ unions we’ve worked with
• Serve as a spokesperson for TeachKind media pitches – including dissection issues and cruelty-cases
• Represent TeachKind Science and PETA at meetings and conferences to discuss alternatives to dissection and animal use in science education
• Communicate with teachers’ unions, educators, government officials, media outlets, and the public about issues related to humane science education and non-animal teaching methods
• Answer correspondence regarding issues related to the use of animals in education
• Write and coordinate content on TeachKind and PETA.org related to dissection
• Coordinate mailings and outreach to educators about the topic of dissection

• Professional appearance and adherence to a healthy vegan lifestyle
• Must be at least 21 years of age and have a valid U.S. driver's license, a minimum of three years of driving experience, and a satisfactory driving record
• Demonstrated exceptional writing and research skills
• Proven familiarity with scientific terminology and virtual dissection software
• Proven ability to work well under pressure and within tight deadlines
• Proven ability to maintain strict confidentiality at all times
• Ability to lift and carry up to 20 lbs.
• Proven ability and willingness to interact effectively with educators and the public
• Degree in a related field and five years of relevant experience
• Support for PETA's philosophy and the ability to professionally advocate PETA's positions
• Extensive knowledge of and experience in the Florida education system
• Demonstrated ability to analyze and interpret complex technical documents
• Willingness and ability to travel
• Experience with lobbying preferred
• Commitment to the objectives of the organization
• COVID-19 full vaccination and booster recommended
• Extensive knowledge of issues related to the use of animals in science education

The salary range for this position is $42,000 - $64,480 annually. The ultimate salary within this range that will be offered to a qualified candidate will be determined based on the candidate’s experience and the cost of living in the area in which the candidate will live and work.
