Job Description

The Safety, Environment &Risk Manager (SER) is responsible for leadership of the safety and environmental processes and growing the programs for both ACI company sites. The SER would manage keeping Safety and Environmental programs up to date by reviewing, evaluating, and analyzing the work environments. The SER will also ensure continued compliance with local, state, and federal agencies. Works with and through management, to ensure compliance with health and safety procedures and to assist in the achievement of profitability/productivity requirements. The SER is to serve as the Safety Management Representative (SER) within the Ajinomoto Health & Nutrition (AHN) group and to outward facing agencies (OSHA, MADEM, EPA).


EDUCATION, CERTIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:


• Bachelor’s degree in safety, industrial hygiene, Environmental engineering or other physical science

• OSHA 30hr certified

• 4+ years in a safety related field in a manufacturing environment

• Well versed in Local, State and Federal compliance regulations


KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:


• Knowledge of OSHA, EPA, DNR and ISO

• Knowledge of Process Safety Management (PSM) /Risk Management Program (RMP) programs

• Confident, energetic, passionate and multi-project oriented.

• Influencer who can raise the presence of safety through effective training to gain buy in of employees

• A Working knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel). Experience working with Microsoft SharePoint and Team is desirable.

• Working knowledge of Preventive Maintenance plans and software

• Ability to multi-task projects and day-to-day responsibilities

• Ability to read, write, and speak English

• Ability to wear all required personal protective equipment in accordance with Quality and Safety policies

• Ability to work independently with minimal supervision or as part of a team

• Ability to interact well with other staff members and in alignment with company’s overall goals

• Ability to have a positive, self-initiating, can-do attitude, be reliable and punctual.

• Demonstrate a continuous improvement mindset to improve procedures and processes.

• Ability to maintain company confidential data.

• ISO 45001 and ISO 14001 experience would be a plus but not required.


WORKING CONDITIONS: This position works in a food manufacturing environment and requires the ability to adhere to all GMP, Food Safety, workplace safety and security policies including wearing required personal protective equipment, as well hair net, beard net, etc. as required.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works near moving mechanical parts. The employee frequently works in high, precarious places and is frequently exposed to extreme heat and risk of electrical shock. The employee occasionally works in outside weather conditions and is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, extreme cold, and vibration. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud requiring the use of hearing protection.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Position requires the ability to lift up to 50 pounds and walk on concrete floors, bend, reach, push, and pull, performing repetitive motions. Must be able to wear all personal protective equipment as outlined in Quality and Safety policies.


PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:


• Manage the overall safety, health and environmental activities with the primary goal of reducing loss and liability and identifying and eliminating safety concerns throughout the company facilities.

• Provide regulatory interpretation and technical support and advice on safety, environmental and industrial hygiene matters.

• Ensure all records are maintained in compliance with local, state and federal environmental and safety laws, regulations, permits and programs.

• Regularly train and communicate EHS compliance and performance results to all employees.

• Being responsible for review of incidents and injuries, conduct follow up interviews and find root causes.

• Responsible for implementation and maintenance of ISO programs including ISO 14001 and OHSAS 18001

• Find ways to stay current with any new policies from OSHA/NIOSH/NFPA/PSM and all other agencies required.

• Search for on-going training aids to help you aid in safety's future development at the facility.

• Report with and handle all safety software programs.

• Review and approve Job Hazard Analysis forms for entire facilities departments.

• Complete and report on all OSHA 300/301 logs.

• Overviews and reports on company accident statistics and makes recommendations for correction of problem areas.

• Study, plan, and formulate new and revised safety programs and rules; prepare recommendations and implement conformance through management with those which meet approval.

• Coordinate safety activities to keep company compliant with Federal & State guidelines by scheduling classes/instructors, setting priorities, and directing.

• Other duties as assigned.

TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS:

• Will be required to travel to Brockton monthly at minimum.
