Job Description

Job Overview: As a Rural Mail Carrier you will be responsible for the safe and timely delivery of mail to businesses and residences within a designated area. You will drive a company-owned vehicle and follow a pre-determined route to pick up and deliver mail, packages, and other items.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Drive a USPS vehicle along a designated route to pick up and deliver mail.
  • Collect signatures and payments for certified and registered mail.
  • Load mail and packages into a USPS vehicle for delivery
  • Report any suspicious mail or activity to a supervisor.
  • Ensure accurate and timely delivery of mail to the correct address.
  • Provide excellent customer service to the public.
  • Maintain accurate records of mail deliveries and pickups.
  • Communicate effectively with customers, colleagues, and supervisors.
  • Sort mail for delivery and return undelivered mail to the post office.
  • Follow all USPS rules and regulations, including safety guidelines and traffic laws.

Qualifications:

  • Physical ability to lift heavy mail bags and packages.
  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions.
  • Attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Excellent communication and customer service skills
  • A valid driver's license and a clean driving record
  • Ability to pass a background check and drug screening.
  • Familiarity with the local area and street names.
  • Ability to work independently and follow a schedule.


Working Conditions

This job requires working outdoors in all types of weather conditions, including extreme temperatures. Mail carriers typically work 6 days a week, including weekends and holidays, and must be available to work flexible hours. This position involves driving a USPS vehicle, walking for extended periods, and lifting and carrying heavy mail bags and packages up to 70 lbs.

Salary and Benefits:

This is a non-career position, which may lead to a career position. The starting salary for a Rural Mail Carrier ranges between $17-$18 per hour, with opportunities for advancement and salary increases based on experience and performance.
