SUMMARY:
Distributes and merchandises the company’s products to local retail stores. Works autonomously on a dedicated route, driving a step van and ensuring that customers’ needs are fulfilled.
RESPONSIBILITIES AND ESSENTIAL TASKS
1. Loads product into step van.
2. Seeks out new orders/accounts.
3. Delivers product to each stop on route.
4. Maintains a route book.
5. Orders product, stocks shelves, rotates product, stickers product and affixes appropriate signage to shelf.
6. Checks codes, pricing and freshness of product on a daily basis.
7. Develops/maintains goodwill with customers on behalf of Gold Medal.
8. Responds to problems/complaints regarding service and/or product quality and seeks resolutions in a timely manner, or elevates to superior.
9. Trains/retrains as required by company training guidelines (i.e. annual GMPT).
10. Keeps area of assigned work neat and clean at all times. Assists other employees when possible.
11. Does not change job procedures without authorization from supervision.
12. Performs all other related assignments and training of other employees as required.
13. Always operates according to company core values of caring, commitment, and integrity.

Anything which negatively affects or potentially affects the quality of the product must be resolved or reported immediately. All Sales Department employees have a responsibility to take notice of any product quality or food safety issues and to inform their Supervisor immediately.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED
Preparation and Training
A high school level of knowledge of several subjects is required in order to prepare reports, perform calculations, keep records and/or deal effectively with other people. Must possess and maintain an up-to-date state driver’s license and DOT medical card and abide by all state and federal governmental licensure regulations and requirements.
Work Experience
Ability to work independently without close supervision is required. Prior experience in route delivery is helpful and indicates adaptability to do early morning work and long hours, which is required.
Independent Judgment and Consequence of Errors
Independent judgment is often required in safely driving a step van in early morning hours, with varying hazardous conditions due to traffic and weather. Some direct guidance is received from supervision and/or from established procedures and instructions. The consequence of errors may be significant in cost of time, customer service, product appearance and customer/consumer relations.
Contact with Others
Must have the ability to communicate with managers in retail stores. Some contact with other employees during loading, check-in, and cooperative transfer of products.

WORK SCHEDULE
Work schedule is as determined by Supervisor
PHYSICAL AND MENTAL REQUIREMENTS
14. Must be capable of exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally and/or 20 pounds of force frequently and/or up to 5 pounds constantly to load, unload and place product onto customer shelves.
15. Must have the ability to operate a step van on city streets and/or rural highways.
16. Must have mental and visual ability required to identify numerous varieties of products, codes, labels, prices, and currency denominations. Color code identification is essential. Perception is required to place, arrange and stack product displays. Must be able to do basic math calculations to count, add, subtract, multiply and divide. Visual requirements as normally required of vehicle drivers is necessary.
17. Must be capable of moving in and out of a step van and transporting products into stores. Tasks require sitting while driving, standing, walking, squatting, climbing, reaching, twisting, bending, carrying, grasping, stooping, kneeling, crouching, standing, pushing, pulling, lifting, and the ability to push/pull products on docks, ramps and store aisles. Must be able to talk, hear and understand English for safe driving and customer communications.
18. Must be capable of understanding instructions and reading manuals, sales literature, vehicle instrument panel, notices, schedules, work orders and invoices.
19. Memory skill is required for recall of product prices, traits, codes, availability and order deadlines, etc.
20. Work is in a typical retail store setting.
21. Must be able to work courteously and effectively with others, and to assist co-workers as required.
