Do you like to work with your hands? Are you comfortable climbing ladders and working at heights? Are you looking for an opportunity to get a good job and build a career? The roofing industry is growing and local commercial roofing contractors are hiring for full-time, year-round positions.

Apply to Civic Works’ Roofing Installer Job Training Program!

Your paid training starts with 7 weeks of classes at Civic Works in East Baltimore, Monday through Friday, 8am to 3pm. These training classes will include:

  • Construction certifications (OSHA 30 and certificates in fork and boom truck operations)
  • Hands-on training in low-slope EPDM commercial roofing led by experienced and accredited roofing professionals.
  • Personal and professional development courses

After completing the initial training at Civic Works, you’ll complete 4 weeks of paid on-the-job training with one of our roofing installation partner companies in Baltimore City or Baltimore County. During this period, you’ll work full-time with their roofing crews on their actual worksites, with the possibility of overtime.

To ensure that you can fully focus on training, Civic Works will provide you with all of the following during training:

  • Construction tools and safety equipment to take with you for your next job
  • Free lunches and snacks
  • Transportation
  • A laptop and a WiFi internet hotspot
  • A stipend of $200 per week
  • Expungement services

What to Expect from the Application and Interview Process

To be accepted into the training program, you must meet the following criteria:

  • Be a Maryland resident
  • Be 18 or over
  • Be comfortable climbing ladders and working on roofs at various heights
  • Pass a drug screening (urinalysis detects THC and other substances)
  • Have no open (criminal) cases
  • Complete an online application

Note: trainees do not need to have a high school diploma or a GED to enroll in the training program. Women and persons who have been impacted by the justice system are strongly encouraged to apply.

How to Apply

  • Step 2 - Complete our online Intake Form. Once you’ve completed our online Intake Form you’ll automatically be redirected to Calendly to schedule your In-Person Hands-on Skills Test appointment.
  • Step 1 - Click “Apply Below” and complete our Indeed application. Once you’ve completed the Indeed application you’ll automatically be redirected to our online intake form.
  • Step 3 - Schedule your in-person Hands-on Skills Test Appointment with Calendly
  • Step 4 - Attend your in-person Hands-on Skills Test Appointment, which includes a hands-on skills assessment and a drug screen.

Once you complete your in-person Hands-on Skills Test appointment, you’ll be guided by Civic Works staff through the rest of our interview and screening process.

Note: Graduation and employment assistance are based on successfully meeting all program requirements, including but not limited to, demonstration of relevant construction skills, passing course exams, punctuality, attendance, and adherence to program policies.
