Candidates possessing a Class B CDL at the time of hire can be employed and will be notified in writing that documented proof of possession of the necessary permanent Class A CDL must be provided as a condition of employment during the probationary period (12-24 months)


Minimum Hire Rate $21.05 Hourly


Applicants will be given up to 6 months to obtain the required Herbicide Equipment Applicator License.


The position of Roadside Development Herbicide Applicator involves the operation of spray trucks or other spray equipment to make herbicide application on right-of-ways. The position also requires the applicator to testify in regards to lawsuits arising from complaints as to herbicide applications. The applicator also insures proper herbicide is utilized for each vegetative maintenance area and procedure in accordance with requirements of the Louisiana Department of Agriculture and chemical labels. Applicators must also maintain records pertaining to the spraying of herbicide and may be required to perform duties and operate equipment listed for Mobile Equipment Operators 1 and 2.

Qualifications


MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:


Two years of experience in mobile equipment operations.


Note


May be required to possess a valid Louisiana Class D Chauffeurs Driver's License or a Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with or without a tanker endorsement.


May be required to possess a Right of Way and Industrial Pest Control Certification.

Supervision Received


Direct supervision from Roadside Development District Coordinator during spraying season and from a foreman or other higher level maintenance, supervisory or administrative personnel.

Direct supervision over the operation of assigned herbicide equipment.


Functional supervision over Mobile Equipment Operators 1 and 2 connected with the herbicide equipment.


Location of Work:


Department of Transportation and Development, Office of Engineering and Operations (District offices). Other locations may be approved by SCS.


Job Distinctions


Differs from Mobile Equipment Operator 2 by the complexity of the herbicide equipment and the responsibility for applying herbicides in accordance with Department of Agriculture and EPA policies and regulations.


Examples of Work


Note


Operation of spray truck or other spray equipment using protective clothing, boots, gloves and/or respirators when necessary will be the primary and recurring functions of the job.


Testify in regards to law suits arising from complaints as to herbicide application.


Attends meetings and training courses relative to herbicide application as directed by the Department.


Maintain highway roadside and vegetation by proper application of herbicides and/or other chemical treatments.


Maintain vegetation at bridge railing, abutments, highway signs, traffic control devices, drainage structures and drainage channels by application of appropriate herbicides.


Insures proper herbicide as utilized for each vegetative maintenance area and procedure in accordance with requirements of the Louisiana Department of Agriculture and chemical label.


Insures proper weather conditions, wind conditions, and topographical conditions are tolerable for spraying of selected herbicides.


Operate the required spray equipment and truck to insure proper rate of herbicide is being applied in accordance with label and other special factors.


May be required to perform duties and operate equipment listed for Mobile Equipment Operators 1 and 2.


Makes minor repairs to equipment and performs user maintenance necessary to keep equipment in clean, good working order.


Maintain all records pertaining to the spraying of herbicides.
