Job Description
Job Summary: The RN performs under the direct supervision of the Patient Care Coordinator and is delegated an assignment by the coordinator to achieve quality patient care. The RN Staff Nurse shall implement the nursing process in an organized, systematic manner to include assessment, planning, intervention, and evaluation in collaboration with the Patient Care Coordinator as evidenced by documentation in Patient Care Record, direct observation by Nurse Director and patient evaluations of care. The RN is responsible to the Patient Care Coordinator for patient care and ultimately accountable to the Nurse Director. Demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served; also demonstrates knowledge of the principles of growth and development and possesses the ability to assess data reflective of the patient's status and interprets the appropriate information needed to identify each patient's requirements relative to his/her age specific needs, and to provide the care needed, as described in the department’s Performance Standards.


Performance Expectations


  • Demonstrates the knowledge and skills to safely and appropriately fulfill job specific responsibilities related to safety, security, emergency preparedness, control of hazardous materials, life safety, and utility systems as outlined in the hospital’s environment of care plan
  • Able to safely utilize equipment including, but not limited to: Philips Heaartsmart defibrillator, Passport 2LT V/S machine, Accutor V V/S machine, Portable and wall suction devices, Roche Accu-Check, McKesson AcuDose, Medline SCD pumps, Hospira IV pumps, Kangaroo Feeding Pump, Patient warmer, Blood/fluid warmer, Mindray Telemetry Telepack transmitter, and Linet beds.
  • Utilizes knowledge of age specific needs of patients, from pediatric to adult in performance of duties and responsibilities
  • Consistently educates patients and family on equipment, medications, safety, pain control, and discharge needs
  • Consistently plans patient care in conjunction with other disciplines to meet the goals and individualized needs of the patients
  • Is competent in patient interventions as evidenced by safe administration of medications, treatments, procedures, infection control, and addressing changes in status to safely care for patients
  • Consistently evaluates the practices of care delivered to patients and adjusts care according to established standards of practice and physician’s orders
  • Completes accurate and timely documentation
  • Meets established standards of practice of assessment and reassessment from admission to discharge as evidenced by appropriate documentation in the medical record
  • Is competent to access and utilize the EMR for the provision of patient care


Education: Graduate of a recognized non-online RN program.


Work Experience: One year medical surgical nursing care preferred, but not required.


Certification/Licensure: Must hold a current license to practice professional nursing in the state of Mississippi. BLS certification required. ACLS and PALS must be obtained during the first six months of employment.
