Job Description
Compensation: $50 - $60/hour
Location: New York City
Schedule: Thur-Sun from 8:00 AM-4:00 PM
Job Overview
The Staff Nurse will conduct inter-agency rapid outreach deployment and partners with existing homeless response programs to identify, engage, and transition homeless individuals to appropriate services and permanent housing.
Responsibilities
As a Staff Nurse in the Crisis Intervention role, your responsibilities will include —
  • Document assessments and maintain records in a timely manner.
  • Provide medical attention to street homeless individuals according to Mental Hygiene Law.
  • Coordinate transportation to Comprehensive Psychiatric Emergency Program (C.P.E.P.) locations if needed.
  • Initiate the 9.58 process and authorize or direct immediate removal to a designated C.P.E.P. location.
  • Encourage homeless individuals to seek shelter and build trust with them.
  • Collaborate with Crisis Coordinators and Outreach workers for street-level mental crisis assessments.
  • Collaborate with outreach teams for continuum of care and discharge planning.
  • Provide necessary services to homeless individuals with mental illnesses or medical conditions requiring immediate care.
  • Evaluate individuals for potential harm to themselves or others and determine appropriate action.
  • Consult with hospital staff and C.P.E.P. clinicians for medical assessment and treatment recommendations.
  • Engage and assess the medical, mental health, and safety needs of the homeless population on city streets, subways, and parks.
Qualifications
To be considered for this position, you must have the following qualifications —
  • AHA BLS (Basic Life Support) certification
  • New York State RN License
  • Completion of courses in mental and behavioral health
